North happy taking Hawkins under his wing - Welsh Rugby Union (Welsh Rugby Union)

George North was only 18 when he made his Six Nations debut 12 years ago and as he makes his 46th appearance in the tournament he finds himself cast in.

“Joe has flourished at the Ospreys and he is a good professional, like lots of the younger boys now coming through the Academy system. Those connections we have from our clubs to bring to Wales, means the boys know each other well. “Joe will bring youth and energy and he has been on great form for the Ospreys.

Broncos pin London's rugby league future on move to leafy ... (The Guardian)

Capital's outpost of the 13-man code have a nomadic past but a new stadium share in SW19 can put the game back on the map.

For the first time in a while, things are moving in the right direction. “We’re just trying to put things in place to benefit the club long-term,” Eccles says. “We’re at around 50% of our squad that are homegrown, but it’s all on merit, not because they were born in London,” Eccles says. But I sense the appetite for rugby league in London. “Then the following year, you don’t get another parachute payment so you’ve gone from a couple of million quid funding to, in comparison, pure pennies. [relegated from Super League in 2019](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/sep/13/wakefield-london-broncos-super-league-match-report), the parachute payment was swallowed up completely by Covid a few months later,” Eccles says. “It’s an outstanding stadium for rugby league,” Eccles says. “We’re not saying London for the sake of it because it’s London,” IMG vice-president, Matt Dwyer, said in December. But we’ve got to get people excited about London rugby league again.” Their list of grounds reads like a London cabbie’s night shift: Fulham, Crystal Palace, Chiswick, Barnet, Twickenham, Charlton, Brentford and Ealing have all been home. “We’re saying it because there’s a future here and what we’ve seen suggests it. Few people share that belief as fervently as Mike Eccles, who took over London midway through last year and steered them to safety.
