'You' season 4 finds Joe's solitary new life in London disrupted by a murder and a new pack of acquaintances. Read EW's recap of episodes 1 through 5.
Rhys expects him to be grateful that Roald's trussed and ready to be posthumously framed for all the murders. He conks Joe in the head with a rifle, and Joe wakes up chained in Hampsie's dungeon. Kate tells them all to back off, and everyone's cruelly amused that Joe doesn't know the truth about her: she'd be first to the guillotine in a revolution. Kate takes the opportunity to come clean to Joe: her father's one of the most powerful and most evil men on the planet. Phoebe bursts into Kate's room and perches like a queen on the trunk with the body, and Joe and Kate try to hold it together as she tells them that she caught Adam with a servant. You texts again, and at first Joe wants to lash out at this upending of his life, but he holds back, realizing that what you wants is a kindred spirit. Roald tells Kate to quit playing with boys and to claim her place in the world. Joe saves the day with his observation skills, leading Kate to the vandal thanks to the hostel key he saw sticking out of her pocket. Joe has no memory of doing a murder, and he curses the whole time he's dragging the body to the boot of his borrowed car. Adam warns Joe that Malcolm's a blackmailer, and Joe realizes this honestly makes it unlikely that Adam's the murderer. To avoid the paparazzi, Joe slips in through the back with a woman who knows the door code. Phoebe invites him to Simon's gallery opening and orders him to select a suit from the closet of freebies she gets from designers.
The Netflix thriller's latest episodes have its antihero, played by Penn Badgley, on the back foot as he navigates the world of London's ultrarich.
In London, “not only are there people who have a ridiculous amount of money and have no idea what’s going on in the world, but they have titles,” Gamble said. “We never felt any responsibility to reform Joe, to give him a particularly happy ending,” Gamble said. It’s an evolution that Badgley is also keenly aware of: Joe is now “managing to grow emotionally, while not growing at all,” he said in a recent video interview. In Joe’s twisted mind, “he seems to actually respect her more,” he added. The stories he told himself with previous love interests, like Beck in Season 1 or Love, “stopped in those scenes with Marienne,” Gamble said. Setting the fourth season in London was, in part, a practical one: Paris would have been more complicated in terms of language and logistics. The season sees Joe “walking himself closer and closer to a self-awareness that he really won’t know what to do with,” Gamble said. Ahead of each new season, the production team ask themselves, “what kind of thriller we’re going to put him in,” Gamble said. His plans, however, are quickly scuppered when members of the ultrarich group of friends he resentfully joins start getting killed, and Joe must find the murderer before he’s framed for their crimes. (“In a more just society, we would all see Joe as problematic and not be interested in the show, but that’s not the society we live in,” Badgley [told The New York Times in 2019](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/24/arts/television/penn-badgley-you-netflix.html).) Not only is it set in London, but we soon find Joe on the back foot, being manipulated by a mysterious enemy who may be an even more accomplished killer. Marienne fled to Paris with her daughter — and Joe vowed to find her.
The beloved Netflix thriller starring Penn Badgley and Tati Gabrielle returns for its fourth run, and so do all of those killer songs.

The show makes ample use of the Egham campus and its historic colonnades, which works much better visually than geographically: episode one sees Joe walking from uni to his flat in South Kensington, via the West End and Spitalfields. The fourth season of Netflix's twisty drama series You started off with an intriguing premise – what if Joe, everyone's favourite lovelorn serial killer, was no ...
She invites him for a pint, but Joe turns her down, his inner monologue deciding she knows too much already and it would be dangerous to get involved (or maybe he just doesn't like English beer). But just as he struggles to pull the chains from the wall, Rhys is back and very disappointed that Roald is still alive. Of course, neither of them suggest calling the police – Joe because, well, he has history (and literally knows where quite a few bodies are buried) and Kate because she doesn’t want the bodyguards at the house to be involved, because they work for her morally dubious father, and she has major daddy issues. Kate may have called Joe “a shit Sherlock” in the past, but he’s determined that the luxury manor is the perfect place to uncover a murderer. – and Joe sets about working out how to escape. Having escaped Californian suburbia by faking his own death at the end of season three, Joe (Penn Badgley) went on to pursue his current obsession, Marianne (Tati Gabrielle), in Paris.
Here's everything you need to know about the events of You's fourth season—and how part one ends.
In the fifth episode, Roald openly accuses Joe of being the killer and presents the evidence to the group while pointing a gun in his face. Rhys Montrose, one of friends among the elite group, reveals he is the killer and Joe’s stalker. Kate rescues them, and the love between her and Joe only deepens. Joe manages to run away, but Roald catches up to him, and they fight. At the party, Malcolm urges Joe to let loose and try to enjoy the night. Joe hobbles back into Kate’s room to find her staring at Gemma dead on the floor. Joe manages to dispose of Malcolm’s body without raising any alarms and later finds Marienne, who is understandably frightened by him, and goes back to Paris to be with her daughter. But after Joe fakes his death and moves to Europe, he becomes friends with some of London’s elite class, and the script is flipped on its head: someone knows Joe’s secret, and, this time, he is the one being stalked by a killer. Now going by Jonathan, he befriends a rich and well-connected professor named Malcolm, whom he lives next door to—so close, in fact, that he can see into Malcolm’s living room in the flat that he lives in with his girlfriend, Kate, through his kitchen window. Phoebe decides the group should take a trip to her family’s Typically in the romantic thriller comedy series, Joe becomes obsessed with a woman and gets rid of anyone who might threaten to harm her or their chance of being together. The season ended with Joe in Paris, France, looking for Marienne, vowing that she really was the one for him.
In the current environment where thousands of employees are laid off on an almost weekly basis, you must bring your A-game to the interview.
Are you bringing the anger and resentment of being laid off to the interview? For example, by submitting your rèsumè and asking a recruiter to share it and also people at the firm, they’ll be frustrated as the recruiter will want a placement fee and the internal employees a referral bonus. There will be times when you are out of pocket and not available to return a phone call or email. If your background looks like a mess, your room is poorly lit, the sound quality is terrible and your technology is glitchy, the supervisor will think that you have no attention to detail and are disorganized and lazy. If you’re demeaning to anyone throughout the process, you will not be invited back for another round of interviews. When you show up late without acknowledging that you made the manager wait around for 15 or more minutes, it’s perceived as rude and inconsiderate and shows you have no regard for other people’s time. What do you know about our company, corporate mission and products and services?” If you are incapable of providing answers to these types of reasonably straightforward questions, the interviewers will be aggravated that you didn’t bother to do any research on the firm and assume you don’t really care about the company and just want any job you can get. It's infuriating to interviewers when you don’t have an elevator pitch, concisely and succinctly selling the hiring personnel within 30-plus seconds on why you’re a perfect fit for the role. If you are running late for an interview, immediately inform the interviewer and offer an estimated arrival time. Additionally, the companies letting go of staff are not inclined to hire anyone new unless they are a fantastic fit for a highly specialized role that most people don't possess the requisite skills and experience. You may be great at what you do, but the hiring manager will take a hard pass when you come across as an arrogant, rockstar jerk. If you don’t treat your job search like it’s your new job and a top priority, you’ll be less competitive.

[Ghosts](https://www.denofgeek.com/ghosts/), it’s Charlotte Ritchie. Highlights include her ingenious attempt to [trap a rat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KqQ-pYfaFQ) and, as you can see above, crawling and scurrying around a golf course like a delighted cat for hours on end. It’s a particularly chilling episode thanks to [Ritchie’s nuanced, deceitful and resourceful](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/doctor-who-series-11-resolution-review/) character, who continues fighting against the Daleks’ control as they force her to do increasingly evil and destructive things. Her stint as a contestant on Series 11 of Taskmaster was an utterly joyous dose of pure chaos, and despite For a certain slightly older generation, Charlotte Ritchie will always be midwife Barbara, one of the most beloved characters in Call The Midwife’s long history. Charlotte Ritchie is brilliantly sharp and wry as Alison, the friend who tries to lure the other two away from the game to actually participate in the real world every now and then, and there are also excellent guest appearances from the likes of Starstruck’s Rose Matafeo. For a certain generation, Charlotte Ritchie will always be Oregon, the naive, hopeless student trying to hide her privileged background from her rebellious new best friend Vod in hit university-based comedy-drama Fresh Meat. Her character Alison is the glue that holds the entire concept together: her accident in episode one means she’s the only human who can see and interact with the hilarious family of ghosts that inhabit Button House, her newly inherited home. Charlotte Ritchie joined the cast in Series 7 last year as Bonnie, a widow who becomes one of the vicar’s love interests, beginning a tempestuous romance which is a pleasing distraction from the fact that this tiny Cambridgeshire village seems to attract a wildly disproportionate number of murders. If you’re new to You, it’s the story of bookshop manager Joe Goldberg, who has a pathological tendency to develop dangerous infatuations with women, which usually end in lots of bloodshed and/or a prolonged stay in a plexiglass book vault. And in Season 4, Charlotte Ritchie gets the unenviable honour of playing the latest obsession of creepy-yet-handsome, ‘I just can’t help falling in love with (and then probably killing) you’ Joe, aka Penn Badgley. This award-winning Channel 4/Netflix comedy drama is a semi-autobiographical work by Mae Martin, who stars as themself, alongside Charlotte Ritchie as their girlfriend George.

Joe Goldberg returns for another rousing game of cat-and-mouse on You Season 4 — only this time, he's the mouse.
Eventually, Joe is shocked to find that Rhys is both his stalker as well as the killer. That’s not going away anytime soon.) And now that Rhys has his number, he’s ready to deliver a dose of Joe Goldberg justice. Once he’s back in London, the news is aflutter with the news of the latest killing … There’s never been such a disconnect in the way that Joe presents himself to the outside world and what he’s really thinking in the innermost reaches of his devious brain. Thanks to his star pupil Nadia, Joe has already read “Good Man, Cruel World,” Rhys’s captivating memoir of how he went from rags to riches, pulling himself out of a childhood of trauma and poverty and ending up in the company of high society. Under the principle of Chekov’s gun — a gun in the first act will resurface by the third — it seems that Marianne will somehow come into play later in the season. Why the detective accepted a simple image of a locket as proof of her murder is perplexing, but whatever. The first half of the season establishes the cat-and-mouse game between Joe and his stalker, even revealing the man behind the shady, disappearing texts in the final few moments of the Part 1 finale. Joe’s focus immediately shifts as he scrambles to try and figure out who is stalking him, why, and what they have planned for him in the long run. When we first check in with Joe, he’s living a pretty normal life, working as a professor of literature and spending his nights curled up with a book and a cuppa in his fancy flat. It’s a delightful twist that upends the typical You narrative, putting Joe Goldberg on the defensive instead of the offensive. [You](https://www.denofgeek.com/you/), Joe (Penn Badgley) finds himself on the other side of the Atlantic.

Adopting a new lifestyle is hard – it sounds like she is setting boundaries where she has control, but it’s difficult to resist old favourites sometimes when your partner is eating them at home. Vegan has a very specific meaning and Agniezska isn’t living up to the term. I don’t try to change his habits at home, and I am not controlling about his diet, so why is he trying so hard to get involved with mine? At the time I just craved the taste of it, but Dylan has reminded me of it so many times since, I don’t think it was worth it. I went vegan because I believe that eating fewer animal products will be better for me and the environment. A few months into it I was cooking a fry-up and she leaned over and said: “Oh can I have a piece of that bacon?” I said to her: “Aren’t you a vegan? I find the performative aspect of being a vegan a bit strange. I didn’t take it well when he called me a “fegan” in front of his brother. One time at the pub I exposed her bacon-eating in front of my brother. Agnieszka hasn’t tried to ram her opinions down my throat and doesn’t tell me I can’t keep meat in the fridge. We will go to a restaurant with friends and she will make a big deal about refusing to try certain foods. She has been a “vegan” for about a year, so it is still new to her, but it’s funny how often she slips up.

What with the Emmy-winning "White Lotus" and the Oscar-nominated "Triangle of Sadness," the monied class has been taking a beating from pop culture. The finale of "You" suggests that there's still a plushy vein of cutting humor to be mined from sticking it to one-percenters, who often rival poor-boy joe for toxic psychosis. It wasn't until Netflix picked up the series that "You" began to connect and even go viral with audiences more open to subversive intent. He locks them in a cage he keeps in the bookstore basement, trying to talk sense into them and resorting to violence when he fails. Cut to season 4, with Joe -- now bearded and using the name Jonathan Moore -- as literature professor who claims to like living alone. Then he's a stalker, a kidnapper and a murderer with the instincts of a serial killer.

You on Netflix season 4 review, does Joe's new redemption arc work for the hit show?
He's doing his best to convince himself, and the viewer at home, that this is a new trajectory. But what seems clear from season four, part one, is that the show has backed itself into a corner. This seed was first sown in season three, which enabled Joe to paint himself as some sort of victim held captive by his obsessive and controlling wife (oh, the irony). Where we are really hit over the head with this idea is in Joe's decision to let Marienne go. In this way, his redemption is disingenuous. But he's looking away, mostly, and trying to prove that he's a better person now.
Still here? Great. Let's get into it. Season Four, Part One of You was a whirlwind, to say the least. After moving to London, Joe Goldberg—a serial stalker and ...
He then instructs Joe to kill Roald, sets the cellar on fire, and asks Joe to find him in London if he survives. While Roald sleeps in the corner, Rhys admits to all the murders, and blackmails Joe into helping him finish the job. Whoever is wielding a knife around town knows who Joe really is—and is framing him for the setup of the century. Shortly after Gemma turns up dead, Roald accuses Joe of being the Eat The Rich Killer. The Eat The Rich Killer refuses to reveal their identity—and they’re targeting Joe’s new circle of friends. A mysterious murderer, dubbed the Eat The Rich Killer, is roaming the streets of London and axing all the elite 20-somethings they can find.
In You season 4, Penn Badgley's murderous stalker has hopped over the pond and is brushing shoulders with the aristocracy.

Joe remarks in one of his million voiceovers, "I'm not sure any of these people really like each other, they're all just so obscenely rich it's like a mandatory club", and, sure, maintaining the social hierarchy is probably what's happening but what Joe is also failing to consider is that British people absolutely love misery. It's a [whodunnit](https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/article/murder-mystery-films-whodunnit-2022)! While geography and slang may be leaving a bit to the imagination, there are some cultural specificities that You manages to get so right it's almost scary (like ‘Joe watching you diddle yourself through your window’ scary). More on that in a second), and for the first time in the show's four-year run he's now being stalked rather than the other way around.

She visibly detests Joe throughout much of the season and doesn't allow him to pull the wool over her eyes, refusing to (immediately) fall for his American wiles and making his life difficult in the process. He's introduced to this innocuous world through fellow professor Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) but when something tragic happens in the season's first episode, Joe must find his feet in the group, while also figuring out who's a cold-blooded killer. With Joe's life dominated by thoughts of paranoia and suspicion, it feels like a comeuppance in a way – he can finally get a taste of what the women in previous seasons have felt. Like any good whodunnit, he has to suss out the clues, the backstories and lives of his counterparts, all with the threat of his true identity being revealed. But it's the fact that on top of being set and filmed in an entirely new location, the series itself feels like it's finally been given a new lease of life.
