England v South Korea: Arnold Clark Cup – live (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Join Will Magee for updates as the teams begin their Arnold Clark Cup campaign in Milton Keynes.

James was, without doubt, the outstanding player for England in the first half. In the meantime, Wiegman has made a half-time change with Carter swapping out for Katie Zelem. The shot takes a wicked deflection and loops up into the back of the net. James gets to the byline and scoops a cross to the far post, but it’s a little overhit. 52 min James breaks forwards once again but catches Lim Seon-joo across the ankles after the South Korea defender comes across and gets in front of her. 75 min Coombs tries to flick a ball over the top, but South Korea defend it well. 55 min Stanway gives away a free kick in a dangerous position after catching Kim Yun-ji. Wiegman makes a triple change, bringing off Kelly, Greenwood and Russo for Lauren Hemp, Niamh Charles and Rachel Daly respectively. She is tackled but the ball falls kindly for James, who leaves the back of the net bulging. 88 min Off the post! 90+2 min Hemp thunders forwards on the left but is denied by a sliding tackle from Kim Hye-ri. “That’s what the aim is,” she says with a wry smile.

Arnold Clark Cup 2023: Belgium win first match of the tournament ... (Football.London)

Both Italy and Belgium had chances to win this opening tie of the Arnold Clark Cup tie at the MK Dons stadium.

Her 70th international goal was enough to give them the win despite Italy's second-half fightback. That was, until the 65th minute when they managed to equalise through a brilliant curling effort from substitute Manuela Giugliano, just minutes after coming on. Italy came out stronger in the second half and it was clear it would be a long 45 minutes for Belgium as the Italians took charge of the match from the 50th minute, signified by some clever play between the players.

They probed primarily through Lauren James, and were duly rewarded for their dominance late in the first half when the Chelsea forward was brought down in the penalty area. Korea are a touch slow to everything and after another flowing passing move Zelem places here effort from the edge of the area, but it is just wide. What a performance it has been from James and it is likely to be the first of many for the 21-year-old. Every time they attempt to play the ball from the back they are surrounded by a sea of white shirts and either concede possession in their own half or clear it long to the England backline. A puff of the cheeks from Choo, who takes a rest at the post as England prepare to take a corner. A rebound lands at the feet of Robinson, who is unable to open her England scoring account as her effort crashes against the posts despite a gaping goal.

The Lionesses are finally back: 11 reasons to tune in to the Arnold ... (Stylist Magazine)

The Lionesses are about to kick off their first tournament since winning Euro 2022. Here's what you need to know and why you should tune in.

Although Rachel Daly moonlights as a defender when she plays for England, for her club (Aston Villa) she plays as a forward and is currently the joint-top goal scorer in the WSL with 10 goals in 13 games. Increased viewership will only help to propel women’s football further and help players to access the kinds of facilities and support they need to play at their best. Need we remind you of Russo’s preposterous backheel goal against Sweden in the Euro 2022 semi-final? [Beth Mead](https://www.stylist.co.uk/fitness-health/bbc-sports-personality-of-the-year-2022-the-best-reactions-to-lioness-beth-meads-win/746764), who won player of the tournament and the Golden Boot, is currently recovering from an ACL injury she sustained in November of last year. Post- [Euro 2022 win](https://www.stylist.co.uk/fitness-health/england-lionesses-euros-2022-win-reactions/690603), average attendances in the Women’s Super League increased by 200%. She’s finally back to full health and will captain the team throughout the Arnold Clark Cup. We’re confident we can expect more of the same during the Arnold Clark Cup. Or, the penalty she scored in the friendly against the USA at a sold-out Wembley last October? Then, there was [Chloe Kelly’s iconic celebration](https://www.stylist.co.uk/fitness-health/womens-euros-final-chloe-kellys-topless-celebration/690587) after tapping in that magic winning goal. And, in much, much happier memories, there was the time that football (finally) came home after the Other players who weren’t in the Euro squad that we’re excited to watch include Ebony Salmon, Katie Robinson, Jessica Park, Niamh Charles, Emily Ramsey, Sandy MacIver, [win](https://www.stylist.co.uk/fitness-health/england-lionesses-euros-2022-win-reactions/690603) that will go down in history – and not just because it’s the first time an England football team has won a major trophy since 1966.

James was felled, and up stepped Stanway to ram the ball fiercely to the goalkeeper’s right. Zelem was introduced from the bench at half-time and Coombs got her first half-an-hour of international football since 2015. And they so nearly had four when Stanway rattled the crossbar with a stinging effort following a well-worked short corner. James was the loser — slipping as she shot. She beat four players as she darted in from the left towards the box. She cut in on her left foot, striking into the grateful arms of Mary Earps.

Korea Republic had moments of reminding England that they were still in the game, but it was clear from the first goal that England were going to eventually dominate the match. It was Georgia Stanway who fired home England's first goal of the tournament from the penalty spot in the 40th minute and the strong half continued for the Lionesses but they were stopped from getting one more before the break after some excellent play and dominating the field. England dominated possession in the first half forcing J M Kim into some big saves and it was a frustrating first 15 minutes with opportunity after opportunity - but they just couldn't get the ball in the net.
