A local regiment will exercise its "Freedom of the Town" after it was granted the honour seven years ago.
It entitles the regiment to exercise a right to march through the town with colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed. The parade will step off from St Peter and St Paul Church at 10.05am. The Yeovilton army regiment is now fully operational and established in the local area. The Freedom was an honour granted only to troops which had earned the trust of the local population, either through some valiant action or simply by being a familiar presence. More than 150 officers and soldiers from 1st Regiment Army Air Corps, based at Royal Naval Air Station, will march through the town next week. The regiment has a strong affiliation with Wincanton, having been awarded the Freedom of the Town seven years ago.
