A new registration scheme would need resources to properly enforce, a big ask in a time of rising living costs and government austerity measures. We aren’t the only ones who think this. The UK government estimated only around 50% of dog owners complied with the old scheme and registered their dogs. A company, who breached anti-money laundering rules, can no longer trade as a repayment agent.
Using this process will make it easier for taxpayers to stay in control of their repayments. [consider their options](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-choose-a-tax-agent) when appointing a tax adviser to act on their behalf. The use of legally binding assignments, which transfer any repayment of income tax to a taxpayer’s agent rather than directly to the person who has overpaid, will be stopped as these can only be cancelled when the agent and taxpayer agree. The government intends to legislate to render void assignments of income tax repayments. HMRC will contact all affected clients by the end of March to explain their refund. The greater protections we’re bringing in will help to stop people unwittingly losing their hard-earned money to misleading agents.
The UK has moved for Horizon Europe fee renegotiation as its potential association grows with ongoing Northern Ireland Protocol discussions.
However, what the UK pays in is calculated on the basis of its GDP, not what it gets back, so this could be a difficult ask. Having been blocked from Europe’s €95.5 billion programme, the UK government is thought to want to engage in Horizon Europe fee renegotiation to reflect the fact that it has been shut out for so long. With signs of a potential deal being agreed on the Northern Ireland Protocol, many believe UK association with Horizon Europe might be near; however, will the UK insist on Horizon Europe fee renegotiation beforehand?

This is particularly important given that Mount Pleasant Complex is used for the airbridge flights to and from the UK, for LATAM flights connecting the Falkland Islands to South America, as well as by the Falkland Island Government Air Service (FIGAS) which connects MPC with the outlying islands of the Falklands.
