When are the 2023 Oscar Awards? (The Independent)

The Country Music Association Awards are one of the two biggest ceremonies for country music. The American Music Awards were initially created in 1973 by Dick Clark for ABC. Then members of the New York theatre community, including actors, writers, directors, designers, managers, casting directors and administrative staff, who are also expected to attend all nominated productions, vote for the winners. They’re another one of the four major American entertainment awards needed to achieve an EGOT. Any votes made outside the UK, Eire, the Channel Isles and Isle of Man, are not counted. Who votes: A panel of judges composed of songwriters, publishers, producers, and performing rights organisation representatives submit five nominees for each category. The British Academy Television Awards only honours British programmes. It celebrates the industry’s accomplishments from the year before. All other categories are decided by online fan votes. But, when it comes to performer-based awards (Best Lead Actor/Actress), only specific peer groups can vote. Like, what’s the difference between the Golden Globes and SAG Awards? Everyone is allowed to vote in 16 general categories (Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Series, etc).

Oscars 2023: We Have Our Unstoppable Frontrunner (Awards Daily)

We haven't had an unstoppable frontrunner in a while, a movie that seems destined to follow up its win at the DGA with a win at the PGA and SAG.

If it can win anything beyond that, like Actress or a crafts award, then we’re at The Artist. The Jamie Lee Curtis ad campaign is coming on strong and if she flipped Angela Bassett’s win, then it more or less cancels out the credit they’ll get for flipping to Yeoh. How that all ends up, even with the best of intentions, isn’t always easy to predict. I’ve already talked about how rare it is for a film to win Best Picture and TWO acting awards. If that did happen, then the race is SLIGHTLY more unpredictable. Answer: probably nothing else is going to win the PGA. Does it change things if something else wins the PGA, like Top Gun Maverick? But if its win at the Globes feels wrong (Avatar) its win is stopped short. This one isn’t as bad as some others in the past. If you get it, you’re enthralled by it every step of the way. If you don’t get it, you’re locked out of the experience of appreciating it. If a film that wins at the Globes (Argo) feels right, it keeps winning.

Everything You Need to Know About the 2023 Academy Awards (NBC New York)

Hollywood is gearing up for the 95th Academy Awards, where “Everything Everywhere All at Once” comes in as the lead nominee and the film industry will hope.

After historic back-to-back best-director wins by Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) and Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”), no women were nominated this year for best director. John Williams (“The Fabelmans”), up for best score, is the oldest nominee ever, at 90 years old. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s indie sci-fi hit “Everything Everywhere All at Once” comes in with a leading 11 nominations. In an ad for this year’s show styled after “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kimmel made his humble case for being the right person for the job while noting that he can’t get slapped because “I cry a lot.” You can also stream the show on ABC.com and on the ABC app by authenticating your provider. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 Oscars, including when they are, where to watch the live show and this year’s controversies.

Oscars 2023: The Predictions (Entertainment.ie)

Cate Blanchett is going to walk off with an Oscar and if she doesn't, expect her to come flying out of the wings and tackle Michelle Yeoh to the ground. You ...

The law of the Oscars is that the bold, weird and entertaining movie almost never wins. Yet, the year is 2023, the planet is on a death spiral, AI is going to replace everything creative in the next decade with multiple-fingered, bug-eyed performances, and that show you love is going to be cancelled. No, the likelihood is that the Brendan Fraser-aissance will arrive at its natural conclusion with an Oscar win here, and then we'll start to see him in increasingly more noticeable roles in the future. [Austin Butler](https://entertainment.ie/video-interviews/austin-butler-on-other-elvis-performances-and-his-favourite-elvis-song-529430/) has just leapt forward in a lot of the bookmaker's predictions, so much so that he's now directly under the current frontrunner - Brendan Fraser. We forget sometimes that the Oscars downright LOVE a good song-and-dance man and sure enough, Austin Butler's Elvis Presley was just that. The way in which they so fully committed to the concept and so deftly moved between genres - yearning Wong Kar Wai-esque romance, slapstick physical comedy ala 'Kung Fu Hustle', sharp observational drama about immigrant families - all of it. 'Women Talking' deals with women in the fallout of a sex scandal in a cloistered religious community. In other words, the Oscars generally tend to favour screenplays that speak to what's happening in Hollywood and, in a larger sense, the world right now. Cate Blanchett is going to walk off with an Oscar and if she doesn't, expect her to come flying out of the wings and tackle Michelle Yeoh to the ground. To that end, we've collated our predictions for this year's Oscars - specifically the Big Five. This time around, the lineup at this year's Oscars looks decidedly more like a normal one. [Will Smith's slap aside](https://entertainment.ie/movie-news/will-smith-oscars-slap-chris-rock-517178/), last year's Oscars felt strange and panicked for many reasons.

Oscars 2023: All Best Picture Oscar Nominees, Ranked (High on Films)

Oscars 2023: Best Picture Oscar Nominees Ranked. Do you agree with our list? Are there any nominations you think the Oscars are missing?

All Quiet on the Western Front is not for the faint of heart, as Berger becomes trapped in the mud, blood, dirt, and desperation of it all (without being unnecessarily graphic). An evil, omnipotent version of their daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) is planning to send everyone and everything (everything and everywhere) into a black hole in the form of a levitating “Everything Bagel.” After immersing himself in the role for three years (making it unable to drop the Elvis accent in interviews), Butler carried off The King of Rock supremely—a smart bet for Best Actor. Butler jumped from Nickelodeon kid to red carpet God in a heartbeat, delivering one of the best performances of the year. In contrast, the bold mix of Shakespearean dialogue in a modern setting made Romeo + Juliet (1996) highly acclaimed. Although the movie is completely fictitious, it’s advertised in a way that makes it seem like a biopic of a great—and real—composer. The Great Gatsby (2013) was a glittering, star-studded adaptation of F. Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film was inspired by the death of his father (Paul Dano plays a version of him) in 2020. The central conflict in The Fablemans is the divorce of Sammy’s (a stand-in for Spielberg himself, played by newcomer Gabriel LaBelle) parents, which Sammy blames largely on his father. Women Talking has the outside look of a period piece, but it actually takes place in 2010, as did the true story. The release of Avatar (2009) was a strange moment for cinema, even somewhat of a phenomenon. Avatar: The Way of Water features Jake (Worthington), once again in blue humanoid form, fighting against the human invasion of Pandora.

Oscars 2023: 10 Best Picture nominees you need to watch (Sportskeeda)

The nominees for Best Picture at this year's Oscars 2023 include massive action films like Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, as well as more ...

The film is insightful and in rooted in important social issues, making it a tough competitor among the nominees at Oscars 2023. The film is a satire and manages to comment on a wide range of issues, whilst telling an intriguing story. The film brought back the iconic grace of Maverick, Tom Cruise's character from Top Gun. The director has stated that this is amongst his most personal and work and reflects on his childhood and youth. Directed by Todd Field, the film stars Cate Blachett and Nina Hoss in lead roles. Although the concept of multiverses has become very popular recently, this film treats it with novelty. When Padraic takes the help of his sister and an islander to fix his friendship, things escalate and take a dramatic turn. Directed by Edward Berger, All Quiet on the Western Front is a war drama that explores the realistic tragedy of war while following Paul Baumer and his classmates who join the army after war breaks out in Germany in 1914. The film celebrates Elvis Presley's legacy as cinematically as possible. The nominations, despite being dominated by the action genre, still boast a variety of films. The ardent fans that Others like Everything Everywhere All at Once are known for having offered some of the finest theatrical experiences in recent times.

Oscar 2023 Winner Predictions: Production Design - Slant Magazine (slantmagazine)

Two indisputable trends come to a head in this year's Oscar race for production design.

And the gaud is ever-present in its blocks-long recreation of Memphis, the to-the-letter Graceland redux, and the ballroom at the International in Las Vegas. (She did also lose costume design for [Australia](/film/australia/), but the fact that she managed a nomination at all for that widely loathed film only confirms her award might.) The former is almost, dare we say, restrained for a Baz Luhrmann production, and the latter arguably comes off as an undisciplined attempt to beat the Bazmark troupe at their own game.
