We gave him a week or two weeks off, and after that Riyad [Mahrez] was in his best time of the season and Jack made a step forward.” However, the 22-year-old has been fit enough to play for a number of weeks and has been held back. Foden certainly occupies that category and his performance against Bournemouth suggests he is ready to have a real influence. In that match, Manchester City had plenty of the ball and created opportunities, but couldn’t find the back of the net more than once. Foden was restored to the Manchester City lineup for the 4-1 win over Bournemouth and showcased why so many supporters had been calling for him to start. The sight of Phil Foden on the Manchester City bench had become a familiar one.

Manchester City into FA Cup quarter-finals as Foden bares teeth in ... (The Guardian)

Manchester City brushed aside their Championship opponents, winning 3-0 thanks to a Phil Foden double and a late strike from Kevin De Bruyne.

Phillips rattled the crossbar with 63 seconds on the clock with a shot from outside the box and although the hosts then settled Manchester City took the lead on seven minutes. The longer the hosts stayed in the game, the more they grew in belief. Guardiola’s opposition scout advised him to expect an awkward evening and the Spaniard finished his homework on the Championship side poring over some clips on the flight south to Bristol on Tuesday. It did not stop Pearson and Guardiola, who were in deep in discussion at full time, chewing the fat over a glass of wine. The sight of De Bruyne and Rico Lewis booting the ball clear amid second-half pressure told part of the story. Scott was one of five academy graduates to start and two more arrived from the bench.

The temperature was rising both on and off the pitch as the contest became more balanced and Bristol City fans urged their players to seize the moment. Julian Alvarez miskicked in front of the home goal from Foden’s cross, but Bristol City were acquitting themselves well and getting a fair amount of joy down their left flank. The scoreline was harsh on the hosts, who fell behind to Foden’s seventh-minute strike and remained very much in the contest well into the final quarter.

Bristol City 0-3 Manchester City: Phil Foden nets double as Pep ... (Eurosport.co.uk)

Two goals from Phil Foden and one from Kevin De Bruyne took Manchester City past a game Bristol City and into the last eight of the FA Cup.

And using Vyner as a screen, De Bruyne measures an understatedly vicious curling fioish low into the far corner from 20 yards. Tonight, though, he was the best player on the pitch and by far, a constant, inventive menace. De Bruyne curves a luscious pass down the channel for the marauding Ake, who squares for Alvarez. He finds De Bruyne, nips in behind, collects the return, and punches a perfect ball across and along the ground, for Foden to confidently snap home at the far post. He drives towards the box and slips in De Bruyne to his left, who ducks away from Tanner ... But the league champions quickly got their passing going, and it was no surprise when on seven minutes, Foden finished a fast and incisive move.

Could have given City a dream start when his early effort deflected wide of the right post. An almost impossible task in keeping De Bruyne quiet but showed his experience sitting deep and dropping into the back four when needed. A player in great form at the moment and he continued that once again. Frustrated at half-time after being isolated but looked more assured in the second half with Sykes to his right. Played too far apart from Vyner and Man City were able to exploit the space between them. A learning curve for the young full-back who was left exposed by both Foden and Bernardo Silva at times.

The 12 major fan takeaways from huge Man City Etihad Stadium ... (ManchesterWorld)

The Etihad Stadium will see its capacity increased to 60000 along with plans to boost its reputation as a home of entertainment, education and business.

It is anticipated that a main construction contract would be awarded in September 2023. We would support the development of skilled and qualified local people, who would be empowered to create an exceptional fan and visitor experience at the Etihad Campus, adopting hospitality as a career of choice.” This comes after the club identified that “formal education routes available for people who aspire to build a career in the hospitality sector, particularly those which offer real-life practical experience as part of gaining qualifications, are low in number”. This is set to be in operation before Co-op Live holds its first event. Alongside this, Manchester City is developing alternative methods for fans to travel to and from the stadium as part of its wider sustainable transport strategy. This will be located in the City Square fan zone area. A large new hotel will be built for use by fans and visitors on matchdays and throughout the week. This is a design move that has influenced our overall form and layout.” In addition, other sporting and community events would be held at the venue on non-matchdays.” We would like to hear views from more of our fans on this topic.” This would increase the stadium’s capacity from 53,400 to over 60,000.
