Spells of rain are more likely than of late, especially at first, with a chance of snow in some areas. There is reduced confidence heading into the rest of the period, although the preferred scenario is that the UK will see a continuation of dominant high pressure, bringing large amounts of settled weather. Some now say a cold snap could be on the way in the next few weeks, with the Met Office now saying Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: High pressure will keep many areas dry, albeit often rather cloudy, into the weekend. The most likely scenario for Saturday is of a band of fragmented slight showers making some progress into the far northeast of the UK. Ahead of this a continuation of cloudy and cold conditions is most likely, with a few coastal showers. A few light showers are also possible, especially in the east. Showers will ease by dawn, with clearer skies developing in places allowing for a touch of frost. "Depending on the temperature of the air near the ground we either see rain or sleet or hail. As it falls to earth, it moves through warmer air most of the time and melts. We could start to see a bit more of milder Atlantic flow develop from the middle part of the month onwards. "As it's usually colder higher up in the atmosphere, when the air rises up the hill, it becomes colder, and condenses to form cloud and precipitation. air travelling from north to the south) bring the air straight from the arctic and over a cold sea to reach the UK. We either require the cold air to meet a rain-bearing weather front and turn it into snow, or for the cold air to pick up enough moisture from its short journey across the North Sea, to form showers. Often with the cold easterly winds, and the air travelling over so much dry land, there is very little moisture in it to form the snow and we end up with some crisp winter sunshine instead. And snow could fall across the West Midlands as March is predicted to be one of the chilliest ever. Provided that skies are clear, temperatures can fall gradually day-on-day because the sun is weak and there is little cloud to keep in any heat at night. [Met Office](https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/learn-about/weather/types-of-weather/snow/snow-forecasting-in-the-uk) says: "Essentially, we need the air to be cold enough, and a supply of moisture. Met Office predicts 'disruptive snow' could hit parts of the UK next week (North Wales Live)

The agency outlined three potential scenarios following the sudden stratospheric warming over the North Pole.

The jet stream will be highly amplified and south shifted meaning northerly winds will hit the UK by the end of the weekend pushing cold weather into the north and east of the UK, while low pressure tries to feed in from the southwest. Another pattern thought to be "unlikely" is that the whole pattern of the jet stream could become more "floppy" and "less loppy", the energy from the jet stream would allow low pressure to be pushed in from the west bringing "wetter, windier and milder" conditions by the start of next week. It loops around an area of low and then pushes all the way back up to the north of the high pressure that developing over Greenland, allowing this northerly feed that allowing the colder weather to push into the north of the UK by the end of Saturday." Meanwhile, for the rest of this week high pressure is expected to stay in charge which means it will remain dry. The most likely outcome at the moment is "something in the middle" of both. "Now, during the weekend, low pressure over the mid north Atlantic will start to feed all this energy northwards and will allow high pressure over the UK to migrate towards Greenland. In the latest Met Office update, forecaster Aidan McGivern said: "Through the rest of the weekend, that cold air will try to filter its way further south. The weather condition makes the jet stream "meander" more which in turn can lead to a large area of blocking high pressure over northern Europe, Although it is still too soon to determine which areas will be affected, they can say with relative certainty that the changes will be happening over the weekend and the start of next week. It means the northerly winds will be pushed out of the way. A similar warming in 2019 didn't bring the same snow. Forecasters are trying to predict what impact the sudden stratospheric warming over the North Pole earlier this

Mr McGivern said the less likely outcome from this jet stream pattern would meanwhile see more cold weather "fully spread" across all of the country. A bright and sunny start especially towards Devon and Cornwall, however cloud building during the morning limiting the amount of sunshine come the afternoon.

A jet stream over the Atlantic that pushes air southwards and then northwards could lead to some white stuff in the north and east.
