The visitors restored their three-goal lead half way through the second half, Gayle getting on the end of a Stoke corner and poking the ball past Patterson from inside the Black Cats' six-yard box. The Potters doubled their lead inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Smallbone advanced through on goal before squaring the ball to Campbell for a simple tap-in at the back post.

There's no defending it - that was absolutely atrocious from Sunderland, who rolled over and had their bellies tickled by Alex Neil's Stoke City.

That could be useful with Joe Gelhardt’s ability to run in behind, but Roberts and Clarke’s form over the last couple of months has made them difficult to take out of the side. The likes of Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts are more dribblers and ball carriers who do not have the vision and ability to play a killer pass that Pritchard possesses.
