St Mirren vs Celtic - LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

Paisley is the only venue Ange Postecoglou's side have lost at this season and will be looking to avenge September's 2-0 defeat.

It’s going to be a tough challenge for us today. We treat every opponent the same. It’s a tough ask for us, but at the same time, we’ve been pretty good for a while now. [Stephen Robinson](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/stephen-robinson) will be looking to throw up another road block however, with the Buddies boss keen to put the bottom six in his rear view mirror and secure a top half finish for the first time. Mark O'Hara has scored a second penalty in as many games for St Mirren against Celtic. A cross ball from the left seeks to unlock Jota for the first time in this match. Gogic then does well to win a foul in the middle of the park. This is going to be a proper barrage of Celtic pressure for the rest of this game. He rolls it direct into the bottom corner and now there's a question for Celtic to answer. A gaffe at one end and a good cross a the other from Small. [St Mirren](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/st-mirren-fc) in Paisley, but they've since accelerated away from Rangers and show no sign on hitting the brakes at the top of the Scottish Premiership. But he just puts it into the stand, to the frustration of the away camp.

"We are going to play in grey again," Ange Postecoglou (thecelticstar.com)

Ange Postecoglou admits that he is not a fan of the Celtic third strip that was worn the last time his team played at St Mirren's stadium back in September ...

If you look at their position in the table you can see they are very consistent. But it is the referee’s decision and we abide by the referee’s decision.” “It was harder to distinguish between players than it would be if there was a clearer distinction between the strips. “I think we are going to play in grey again. Indeed don’t think it’s even been seen being worn by a supporter at a game! He headed over to Australia for a short promotional tour to promote the forthcoming Sydney Super Cup Tournament and joked that he’d had to leave the country because Celtic lost a game in the Scottish Premiership.

St Mirren vs Celtic VAR watch as 3 flashpoints including penalty and ... (Football Scotland)

Ref David Dickinson had a busy afternoon in Paisley, as did Andrew Dallas in the VAR control room.

Sub Hyeongyu Oh was brought down inside the box with 10 minutes to go after a shirt tug from Alex Gogic. That prompted an angry reaction from the Celtic fans, but it was a close call. St Mirren players immediately cried for a spotkick, but ref Dickson allowed the game to continue before the ball finally went out of play. Dickinson then later blew for a [Celtic](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/all-about/celtic-fc) spotkick as Charles Dunne was sent off for a last-ditch tackle on Kyogo, but the decision was overruled by Andrew Dallas in the VAR room who judged that the Hoops striker was outside the box. [Ange Postecoglou's](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/all-about/ange-postecoglou) side did manage to get the job done, though, with a second-half goal blitz as the champions took full advantage of their extra man.

St Mirren 1-5 Celtic: Ange Postecoglou's side go nine points clear in ... (Sky Sports)

Stephen Robinson's Buddies came into the game unbeaten in the league this season after scoring the first goal - and the hosts kept the league leaders at bay for ...

For 45 minutes, it was the perfect game plan." The decision is a poor decision, it's a red card. "When you go a goal down, you have to maintain your composure and we did that. "They get the first goal and we're trying to change it to give us another platform up top with Tony Watt and they score from a free-kick. The boys are good where when they're playing, they are ready to play and it was a massive contribution. And there was a first Celtic league goal for Oh as well, with the South Korean striker being felled by Alex Gogic in the area. We know it's a difficult place to come to and we had to be really disciplined even after we went a man down. We stayed calm and looked for the best options. "You have to ask Greg if it's harsh on him. Nine minutes later, the low-on-confidence St Mirren players succumbed to a third goal. There's the argument of taking your arm out of the way, but Greives is getting round the other side." More quickfire strikes from substitutes Liel Abada, Matt O'Riley and a penalty from Hyeongyu Oh added further punishment to St Mirren.

St Mirren v Celtic penalty 'surprise' as Jack Ross asks why Greg ... (Glasgow Live)

The Celtic defender was penalised in the end following a VAR review after being deemed to have handled the ball in the box after the ball struck his arm ...

Speaking on [BBC Sportscene](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006zrbv) and providing his analysis of the early talking point in Paisley, former Buddies boss Ross explained: "First of all, Alex Greive does well and he's just trying to flick the ball around the corner for himself. The whistler didn't point to the spot at the time with VAR stepping in and asking the referee to look at the monitor. It was at this point he pointed for the penalty and Mark O'Hara converted to give the home side an early lead. All these aspects come in when you talk about the handball. Is he making his body shape bigger? I think you can see it hits Greg Taylor's arm.

Ange Postecoglou's FULL St Mirren v Celtic reaction (The Celtic Way)

Everything that Ange Postecoglou said to the media after Celtic's 5-1 SPFL Premiership win over 10-man St Mirren in Paisley.

He’s a really ambitious guy who wants to be at a big football club. All our players, particularly the younger ones who want to go on to further opportunities, maybe to a stronger league, do you think they are going to go to a club where they are guaranteed game time? He’s a pretty determined guy and his contribution today was important. He wants to win things and be the best he can be. I know he’s not had a lot of starts but he’s still played a lot of football. He’s a handful when he does that and he’s always a goal threat. He’s played a lot of football over the last 18 months for us and he’s scored a lot of goals and supplied a lot of assists. Kyogo gets headlines for his goals but his ability to press opposition defenders and not give them a moment’s peace, we got the reward for that. It’s very easy to get caught up in the game at that point but we continued to try and maintain our football and we created some good chances. You have to be careful not to think it will come naturally. We knew it was going to be a challenging game for us today. With the decision going against us early, we had to maintain our composure, which I thought for the most part the boys did well.

The 3 big St Mirren vs Celtic VAR calls as one penalty slammed and ... (Scottish Daily Record)

There was plenty of VAR drama on hand in Paisley as Celtic romped their way to a convincing win over the Buddies.

Walker said when asked if Gogic could have any complaints: "I don't think so, there's so many bodies in front of him (Dickinson), it's not an easy spot and it's a stupid pull of the jersey." "These are ridiculous decisions when you see a referee, who is ten yards away from it, and he makes the call that it's not a penalty. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. Scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper, or immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental." It brings up the argument of whether or not it was a natural position, where the IFAB ruling states: "For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. It took a while to loop back round to it but Dickinson was eventually sent to review the call where Alex Grieve flicked the ball up onto Taylor's hand from close range.

Kris Boyd shows us just how pathetic he is during a half time spat with Andy Walker on Sky. Walker talks facts while Boyd spouts pish!

He was good up to that point. He’s in the perfect position to see that and I think he calls it right. He made a mistake in the other call as well. At the end of the day, Greive is getting on the other side. He knows immediately he’s in trouble. He’s inside the box, maybe holding his shoulder.

Ange Postecoglou's instant reaction to St Mirren v Celtic (The Celtic Way)

Everything Ange Postecoglou had to say to Sky Sports in the immediate aftermath of Celtic's 5-1 SPFL Premiership win against St Mirren in Paisley.

We’ve got to just keep relying on those things that are the cornerstone of our football – not just what we do when we have the ball but what we do when we don’t. But our guys are really on it in terms of making sure that whenever they play, they're ready to play - and not just play but make an impact on the game. They got a couple of balls in the box and I thought we created a couple of really good opportunities. Their keeper made a couple of good saves, couple of other times we could’ve hit the target but when you go a goal down, particularly from a penalty decision, you’ve just got to maintain your composure. You can have a really strong squad but if players aren’t making an impact or are not in the right kind of mindset, whether they're not starting or they are starting, then having a good squad doesn't really matter. You did say before the game that players would come on and make an impact or you might need them was that key?
