Bullet fired by gunman "relentlessly pursuing" Joseph Nee struck nine-year-old girl in the chest.

The woman said she later "managed to put the pieces together" when she saw a newspaper article which referred to Nee in relation to the shooting, at which stage she "realised who he was and how it was connected to events" of August 22. She added of her reasons for coming forward: "I don’t want her to not have them answers. He was given a change of clothing before leaving with Russell. Olivia Pratt-Korbel cried 'Mum I'm scared' before shooting - court (BBC News)

Thomas Cashman is accused of shooting dead nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in her Liverpool home.

It's nothing to do with me." "The ruthless pursuit of Thomas Cashman to shoot Joseph Nee without any consideration for the community." He told the jury it was a "pre-planned and ruthless attempt to kill Joseph Nee" but, instead of the planned "execution", he had instead shot a nine-year-old girl. She is dying." Mr Cashman had intended to shoot Mr Nee earlier in the day after seeing his van outside Mr Naylor's house, but had been "thwarted" when he returned and Mr Nee had left, the court was told. When he was told the circumstances and that he was being arrested on suspicion of murder, he said: "Youse are mad" and "I've done nothing. The jury was told witnesses heard Mr Nee shouting "please don't", "don't lad" and "what are you doing lad?" Mr McLachlan said Mr Nee stumbled and Mr Cashman stood over him and tried to fire again but, possibly because the pistol malfunctioned, he was unable to complete his "task" and kill Mr Nee. The court heard he went to the house of a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, who said she heard Mr Cashman say the name "Joey Nee". The court heard Mr Nee had been banging on the door and shouting "help me" and Ms Korbel said she was screaming at him to "go away". "She went all floppy and her eyes went to the back of her head," she said. On the night of the 22 August shooting, Mr Cashman, of West Derby, had a loaded pistol and revolver in his possession and was "lying in wait" for Mr Nee, who was "without doubt the intended target", Mr McLachlan said.

Thomas Cashman, who denies the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel in Liverpool, is on trial at Manchester Crown Court.

"The prosecution case is quite simple that he was going to shoot Joseph Nee, but he had been thwarted on this occasion because Joseph Nee had gone, he’d gone to Screwfix," Mr McLachlan said. When Mr Nee left the house at about 10pm a gunman, who the prosecution allege was Cashman, ran behind him and fired three shots from a self-loading pistol, one of which hit Mr Nee in the midriff. The prosecutor said Ms Korbel opened her door after hearing a noise outside and as she did Mr Nee “made a dash” towards her house, with Cashman in pursuit. Mr McLachlan said: “That fourth likely shot passed through the door, it then passed through Cheryl Korbel’s right hand as she was no doubt trying to shut the door. “You will decide what Thomas Cashman was up to" he told them. “When, in all likelihood one of them failed, he simply turned to the other one to execute, literally, his plan. Court News newsletter put together by our court reporters Andrew Bardsley and Amy Walker. Opening the case, David McLachlan KC, prosecuting, said: “It is about the ruthless pursuit by Thomas Cashman to shoot Joseph Nee at all costs without any consideration for anyone else in the community. Mr McLachlan suggested to the jury that over the course of two hours, Cashman had been past or had a view of Mr Naylor's home on six separate occasions. Cashman fired at Mr Nee from a second weapon, a revolver, and hit the front door of the family home, the court heard. The jury of 10 men and two women were told the main issue in the case would be whether they were sure Cashman was the gunman. Prosecutors at Manchester Crown Court said a bullet was fired by Thomas Cashman through the front door of a family home in Liverpool, hitting the hand of Cheryl Korbel, 46, and then fatally wounding her daughter Olivia Pratt-Korbel.
