International Women's Day: A message to your younger self (Williams Racing)

Today - Wednesday 8 March - is International Women's Day, and we're celebrating the women who have broken bias and stereotypes by working in Formula 1.

Plus it’s way more enjoyable sharing the great times and the harder times with people that are on the same mission as you. Personal fulfilment and happiness really are the keys to success. But this doesn’t just refer to school and jobs – it’s an important general life lesson. Be creative and don’t always follow the traditional path. A dream is nothing without an action plan. Finally, teamwork really does make the dream work.

How to Embrace Equity this International Women's Day. (Employee Benefits)

Drawing attention to women and workplace culture is highlighted within this year's International Women's Day 2023 theme titled “Embracing Equity' (1,2).

Get in touch with the team today by emailing [[email protected].](mailto:[email protected]) IWD suggests we need to look at equity focused solutions for generating real change and progression [(2)](https://www.internationalwomensday.com/theme). Equity is about offering support, resources and opportunities equivalent to what may already be in place for men. Not only are DEI committees the right thing to do to support women and minority groups, but they are essential for the success of a business. Currently, no countries have achieved gender parity, but Iceland is the closest, with 90.8% of its gender gap closed [(6).](https://www.internationalwomensday.com/Missions/18487/Global-gender-gap-narrowing-but-still-132-years-to-reach-parity) Women face bias due to their sexuality, race and other aspects of their identity So, it’s essential that businesses understand the systemic issues that make DEI a complex subject. IWD aims to celebrate the worldwide social, economic, cultural and political achievements whilst championing the progression of gender parity [(4).](https://www.internationalwomensday.com/about) And this is why groups like IWD call for organisations to embrace equity within the workplace. Gender equality is also defined as equal access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender. It is the numerical representation of accessible opportunities Keep reading to find out how ‘equity’ is defined and why this theme is so important.

By providing tailored and specific support we hope to encourage more women to start and grow a business right here in our county.” “International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us all to celebrate women’s achievements as well as challenging discrimination. After receiving a scholarship to do an MBA at the University of Exeter in 2019, I pivoted from a pure marketing focus to including sustainability consulting for small businesses. Working from The Tribe in Totnes has provided me with so many recent opportunities: from new clients, trusted advice, referrals, and new suppliers. “I’m so grateful to be part of the Generator Hub coworking space, where I’m surrounded by others also navigating these challenges. (Yes, I actually saw this last week.) It takes skill, determination and a lot of practice. Therefore what we actually require is equity so that we all get the exact resources and opportunities that we need to be successful. Stacey opened her work hub in January 2020 as she wanted to help women overcome the systemic and societal barriers that they face when starting and scaling their businesses. ‘We need to encourage more women into leadership positions and structures who can then bring their lived experience into the decision-making processes that affect the lives of professional women. This can be done through the provision of flexible working and mentor support, but organisations also need to value the talent of the women returning to work and not perceive them as more “difficult” to manage than their counterparts. Unconscious bias continues to be an issue in the allocation of work at the Bar and within organisational structures and responsibilities.
