The pitch is expected to remain quite dry and slow, for both pacers as well as spinners. At the Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament earlier this year, the average first-innings score at the venue was 162. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to bowl after winning the toss against England in the first T20I in Chattogram, the first match of the first bilateral T20I series between the two teams (this is only the second time Bangladesh and England have faced each other in the format).

Bangladesh vs England, first T20 live: score and latest updates (Telegraph.co.uk)

Not the start England were after. They have done little wrong, but Bangladesh's openers have the freedom of a low score to attack and attack.

The pitch is the same as the third ODI, so expect it to be very low and very slow. That's the end of the powerplay and it's a good one for England. 'The Fizz' (Mustafizur) gives Salt too much width first up and Salt frees his arms for his second four of the day. Last ball of the over sees Buttler hit the first four of the game - a hit down the ground over the top. Salt then gets in on that six act, coming down the ground to his Nasum over his head. Mustafizur gets in a slower ball into the surface and Moeen is through with the shot before it gets to him. Five runs - three singles and a two - come before Buttler baseball bats one down the ground for six. Shakib to Duckett over the wicket, but the left-hander reverse him for a majestic four. Finally, a boundary for England - the first since the second ball of the 16th over, Jordan squirting a Taskin slower ball to the cover boundary. Moeen is nearly run out as he searches for that elusive boundary - the tourists haven't got to the rope since the second ball of the 16th over. Talukdar then pulls in front of square for another four - this is a good response from the hosts. Archer continues, three comes off his first two balls before Shanto tries to feast on a short one, it goes to deep mid-wicket and the lefty gets three runs.

Bangladesh v England: first T20 cricket international – live (The Guardian)

Over-by-over report: Join James Wallace for updates from the opening match of the series in Chattogram.

1st over: England 9-0 (Buttler 5, Salt 2) Salt is nearly bowled by an arm ball that slides just past the stumps but runs away for a coupe of leg-byes. Buttler loses his shape as he tries to overhit a couple of deliveries but he gets the last one just right, smoking over mid-on for SIX! They scamper a single off it and Phil Salt smashes the next ball for four. High and swirling off a mis-timed drive and the great all-rounder never looked comfortable under it, the ball plopping off his palms and hitting the turf. He tries to clear the rope at long-on but the bat twists in his hands and he’s well caught just inside the rope. On a second look the ball kept low and scudded into off-stump, a tad unfortunate. 17th over: England 136-4 (Ali 0, Curran 1) Just a single off Hasan Mahmud’s over and the wicket of the silver tuna – Buttler. Moeen unfurls a beautiful drive but it is straight to the fielder. A smear to long leg is incredibly hauled back in Shanto on the boundary but his teammate spills the relay catch! Chris Woakes is the new batter and he digs out a yorker to get off the mark. England took the first ten overs and Bangladesh roared back in the next ten. He’s off the mark with a poke into the off side.

We were in a position to really kick on and launch at the end, but we couldn't manage to get away. We've got a lot of really good all-rounders, gives you lot of options as a captain, it's a nice position to be in the field. We were probably 20 short with our score and we had to chase a little bit in the field. In the air, two fielders (Rashid and Curran) converge from deep backward square leg and fine leg. Bangladesh came out and played with a lot of intent and took the game on. 17.6 Jordan to Shakib, FOUR, length ball marginally outside off, Shakib stays back and flashes his bat hard for a cut. 16.5 Jofra Archer to Afif Hossain, FOUR, 141.6kph, overpitched outside off and Afif Hossain latches onto it. Low bounce and a little bit slow but it played pretty well, it was consistent throughout the game. That's the environment we are trying to create in the dressing room. I just watched the ball and played cricketing shots. When we were bowling, we were under the pump but no one panicked. But the action shifts to Dhaka where the tourists won both their ODIs.

Buttler reaches half-century as England accelerate in opening T20 (BBC News)

Summary. Salt edges behind to fall for 38 before Malan holes out to long-on; Bangladesh win toss and bowl first; First game in three-match T20 series ...

A boundary for Afif Hossain as he get some bat on a bouncer down leg which races away to the boundary. Afif Hossain pings a reverse sweep at a rate of knots to Dawid Malan at point. It's followed by a second boundary as he drops on the back foot and slaps it through the covers. Shakib Al Hasan and Afif Hossain content to prod, poke and sweep Moeen Ali's first three balls. Afif Hossain then plays arguably the shot of the day off Archer's penultimate delivery. "We had a different balanced team. Bangladesh took the game on and that put us under pressure. It is always about starting well in T20 cricket." They all bowled really well and that helped the batsman to just bat normally. Player of the match Bangladesh's Najmul Hossain Shanto: "I thought he batted really well. Perhaps Moeen and Adil Rashid bowling after over four would have got us into the game. We were under the pump when bowling but didn't panic, and stuck to our plans.

Buttler leads England to 6-156 in T20 v Bangladesh (The Canberra Times)

Jos Buttler has thumped 67 off 42 balls to underpin England's 6-156 in the first of three T20s...

In their first T20 since being crowned world champions last November, England - who fielded seven of the players who featured in the final against Pakistan - were asked to bat first in the afternoon sunshine and it was only Buttler who really got to grips with another tricky surface. However, Duckett and Buttler were dismissed off successive deliveries and the springboard they provided was not capitalised upon as England added just 30 runs to their total in the last five overs. Buttler bludgeoned four sixes in the arc between long-on and midwicket as well as four fours while the England captain shared stands of 80 with Phil Salt and 47 with Ben Duckett.
