European roundup: Vinícius Júnior on target as Real Madrid beat ... (The Guardian)

Goals from Vinícius Júnior, Éder Militão and Marco Asensio gave Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Espanyol in La Liga, who took an early lead through Joselu.

Bayern Munich bounced back from a goal down and struck four first-half goals against Augsburg en route to a 5-3 victory in the Bavarian derby . Asensio smashed in a third in added-time to wrap up the win for Real, who had dropped points in draws against Atlético Madrid and Real Betis in their last two league games. Rrahmani then doubled Napoli’s lead in the 77th minute with a towering header from a corner. Real continued to press after the break and Rodrygo almost scored their third with a free kick that cannoned off the crossbar in the 75th minute. Napoli, who suffered only their second league defeat last week at home to Lazio, were made to wait until the hour mark to go in front. Real stepped up the pressure as they sought a leveller with Eduardo Camavinga getting a shot on target, before Vinícius Júnior showed his individual skill in the 22nd minute to cut into the box, beat two defenders and rifle in.

Vinicius Junior inspired Real Madrid to a 3-1 win over Espanyol which brings them within six points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.

MILITAO GIVES REAL THE LEAD 39' - Real Madrid in front! Everybody knew what he wanted to do for the first goal - cut in from the left and shoot right-footed - yet despite having three defenders on him, Espanyol could not stop the Brazilian. Rodrygo got it up and over the wall but just not quite down enough. Life after Benzema does not have to mean Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid - on this evidence and much of this season's, Vinicius is ready to be the leading man. JOSELU GIVES ESPANYOL THE LEAD 8' - The visitors are ahead! While it would be unfair to say to Rodrygo was poor, he did not necessarily thrive under the pressure.
