[2.10](https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/11/cheltenham/2023-03-15/828224/)) sees Gerri Colombe bid for a third Grade 1 win in a row but The Real Whacker, who has won both of his chase starts at Cheltenham, could provide stiff opposition. The second day of Cheltenham features two further Grade 1s including the Ballymore ( [1.30](https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/11/cheltenham/2023-03-15/828223)), in which Impaire Et Passe and Hermes Allen put their unbeaten rules records on the line. An exciting week of racing in Britain comes to a close with jumps meetings at Chepstow and Carlisle. The Boulton Group Midlands Grand National Handicap Chase ( Last year's winner A Plus Tard, Noble Yeats and Stattler could help shape an enthralling running. Galopin Des Champs has been the talking horse this season and will look to prove his stamina alongside King George winner Bravemansgame. Flooring Porter bids to become the first horse since the brilliant Big Buck's to win the race for three years running, while Teahupoo and Cleeve Hurdle scorer Gold Tweet are interesting opposition. Both are unbeaten over fences, with Jonbon bidding to confirm the form of last season's Grade 1 hurdle victory at Aintree's Grand National meeting when he prevailed by a neck. He faces his biggest challenge yet in State Man, a three-time Grade 1 winner this season. Wolverhampton hosts a seven-race all-weather card to complete the action. Gerri Colombe heads the betting, but The Real Whacker, who has potential Gold Cup aspirations, is also prominent in the market along with Thyme Hill.

Gordon Elliott has a strong hand in the Glenfarclas Chase over the cross-country course with defending champion Delta Work and Galvin both set to take their chance, while it is business as usual in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper with Willie Mullins responsible for 10 of the full field of 24, including three of the top four in the betting. The master of Closutton has won this three times in the last 10 years - including last year with Sir Gerhard - and is responsible for four of the 10 declared for the opener. The former has been the talking horse of the Festival preview circuit and as a result is currently topping the market, while the former will attempt to go one better than his second in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the meeting 12 months ago.

Fashion shops, bookshops and other retailers which aren't of interest to Festival visitors see a fall in sales and footfall for the week, as locals stay away. The festival is worth a massive £274 million to the local economy.

The ability is definitely there for him to be involved in the finish, it just depends on whether he turns up in the same form he was in at Cheltenham last year. It will be interesting to see how his form holds up compared to the Irish form. His jumping let him down early as he made a terrible mistake at the last with a circuit to go and was lucky to stay in the race. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against the Mullins battalion. 10 runners are declared to run with Impaire Et Passe the favourite after he was a big talking horse on the Cheltenham preview circuit. Gerri Colombe is unbeaten and looks like he could be as exciting a novice chaser to run at the festival. Barry has said in multiple interviews he thinks he has the best horse in the race. The home team is headed up by the Paul Nicholls trained Hermes Allen who was favourite for the race prior to the word circulating about Impaire Et Passe. The Real Whacker has shown his liking for Cheltenham winning twice there over fences this season. He won on this card last year when winning the Ballymore. Sir Gerhard looks the pick of those. Energumene probably did not run to form that day and should be closer this time around.

The winner of a 3m point-to-point on soft ground made a winning debut in a 2m4f bumper for Willie Mullins at Leopardstown over Christmas. She went on to win two editions of the Champion Hurdle but, because of the emergence of Constitution Hill and her own apparent decline in form, she is back tackling her own sex. But for a last time out defeat the son of the legendary Quevega would be one of the hottest favourites of the week.

Thanks to @BetfairBarry @Betfair." Then you can see the final two races of the day on Racing TV and on a bookies' live stream service. And she will look to produce a solid performance atop Shantou Flyer - who competed in the Hunter's Chase in 2019 and 2020. But he decided to take the money from Betfair and run before the race. Here's what is to look forward too on the opening day and how to follow every race. Tahmuras is the best of the British challenge and was impressive when winning the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown. Sir Allen has progressed with each start and along with Morning Soldier, Byker, Jazzy Matty and METAMORPHEUS (11), who chased him home last time, rates a big danger. State Man was backed as if he couldn’t lose (and he didn’t) in the County Hurdle at this meeting last year. His latest run at Punchestown wasn’t threatening but first-time cheekpieces could bring improvement. Echoes In Rain is respected but isn’t a guaranteed stayer over this trip, while connections of Theatre Glory will have been cursing the weather since supplementing the good-ground mare. [Cheltenham](/horses/cheltenham) on Tuesday. Hold-up performer SAINT ROI (7) unseated early last time but his Festival record includes a ready win in the 2020 County Hurdle and a solid third to Honeysuckle in last year’s Champion Hurdle. Last year’s Triumph winner Vauban could get closer here, mind you, given he should be ridden more prominently than has been the case this term. The in-form duo of Into Overdrive and Monbeg Genius also make the shortlist, while Nassalam caught the eye when third at this venue on New Year’s Day. The recent rain shouldn’t inconvenience either of Jonbon or EL FABIOLO (3) who both seem to be blessed with plenty of stamina as well as class. The unbeaten Chasing Fire is respected, but the Tolworth winner Tahmuras looks the pick of the British team. GAILLARD DU MESNIL has been placed at the Festival last year behind L’Homme Press and Ahoy Senor and was previously second in the Ballymore Hurdle two years ago. He has blown people away and I’m hoping we get more of the same this week. He is a bit of a handful, but no doubt is talented on the gallops.

Cheltenham Festival 2023: Race times, TV channel and latest odds (Telegraph.co.uk)

Your day-by-day schedule to the four-day festival, including race timings for the Champion Hurdle, plus five horses to watch.

Last year's winner was A Plus Tard, ridden by Blackmore, who became [the first female jockey to win the race](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/racing/2022/03/18/cheltenham-gold-cup-2022-live-results-tips-best-bets-latest/). With the Mullins contingent leading the charge, Ireland are 1-20 to win in this year so the home side, it's fair to say, are needing snookers. It did not load quite as well as most horses and we had to find a steep hill to park on, but we got there in the end. He anticipates bringing 130 runners including Henry de Bromhead and Paul Nolan’s teams in 10 trucks, each of which is capable of carrying up to a dozen horses, although for the Festival they generally give them a bit more space. Often nicknamed the “Mad Genius”, Dickinson, who also developed the Tapeta all-weather surface, trained 12 winners one Boxing Day and sent out dual Breeders’ Cup winner Da Hoss (an equal feat to first five in the Gold Cup) is being honoured at the end of March with the JW Galbreath Award for innovation and safety by the University of Louisville. Dickinson, now 73 and based in the United States, never felt able to celebrate one of the all-time feats of training. One of the smallest clubs in racing, in terms of membership, are horses which have won a Gold Cup and Grand National. Currently only Golden Miller and L’Escargot are in it but, with cheek-pieces reapplied, no horse in Friday’s race has the stamina depths of last year’s Aintree hero. He trains 90 horses and knows the time of day so should not be lightly dismissed. Full marks for connections sticking with young up and coming jockey Niall Houlihan on the front-runner who loves Cheltenham, a huge chance for him to break into the big time. At 1-3, Nicky Henderson’s outstanding six-year-old is not a betting proposition but, bar a fall, looks nailed on for his first championship in open company so sit back and enjoy the show. Plans to add a fifth day, on the Saturday, have been shelved because of concerns about damage to the racetrack and Britain's uncertain economic footing.

Cheltenham Festival Day 1: Tips and best bets for Tuesday ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

The Cheltenham Festival is back on Tuesday, with all eyes on the marquee race of the first day of the meeting – the Unibet Champion Hurdle.

I tipped Minella Crooner for stardom last year but he never hit the heights. Gaillard du Mesnil has shown himself on several occasions to be more than a high-class prospect when tried at 3 miles and beyond, having finished a good 3rd in both the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase & the Irish Grand National, retaining his novice status in the process. Further down the market, one horse with a similar profile but almost double the price of that aforementioned three is Metamorpheus. Her two defeats came at the hands of two genuine Grade 1 horses, both of whom go forward as strong fancies in their respective Championship races this week and, back in calmer waters, it is hard not to envisage Honeysuckle stamping her class and proving the one they all have to beat. Last season's mares' novice winner Love Envoi has been impressive but was beaten convincingly by Brandy Love at the back-end of last season and she will need to find more, especially if Honeysuckle reproduces the level of her second toState Man at Leopardstown last time. He is hard to fault and is readily fancied to confirm himself as the most exciting hurdler we have seen in years. His trainer Lucinda Russell is enjoying a particular warm spell of late and it would not be surprising to see Corach Rambler continue his stable’s good run with a big effort here. For all the Irish domination at Cheltenham in recent years this has been a race in which the British horses have more than help their own. The strong start to the Festival for Closutton can continue in the Arkle, with Dysart Dynamo fancied to bounce right back to his best and prove the one they all have to catch. The winner of last year’s Champion Bumper, Facile Vega has otherwise had a foot-perfect career and is fancied to bounce right back to form here and prove very hard to beat. Facile Vega fluffed his lines for the first time in his career at Leopardstown last month, paying the price for laying up with a strong pace set by the re-opposing High Definition. His biggest challenger looks to be Marine Nationale, who remains undefeated after four starts under rules, including victory in the Grade 1 Royal Bond at Fairyhouse.

How To Bet £20 on day one of the Cheltenham Festival (Racing TV)

Andy Stephens has found six winners from his past ten selections – including his past three naps at 5-1, 7-2 and 5-2 – and his fancies for Tuesday's action ...

[DAN SKELTON STABLE TOUR](https://www.racingtv.com/cheltenham-festival/news/dan-skelton-cheltenham-festival-2023-stable-tour) [PAUL NICHOLLS STABLE TOUR](https://www.racingtv.com/cheltenham-festival/news/paul-nicholls-cheltenham-festival-2023-stable-tour) [NICKY HENDERSON STABLE TOUR](https://www.racingtv.com/cheltenham-festival/news/nicky-henderson-cheltenham-festival-2023-stable-tour) [CHAMPION HURDLE RUNNER-BY-RUNNER GUIDE](https://www.racingtv.com/cheltenham-festival/news/unibet-champion-hurdle-guide-to-all-the-potential-runners) Those efforts alone give her every chance of bowing out with a flourish. Finally, my heart and head is with Honeysuckle in the Close Brothers Mares' Hurdle. He beat several fair Flat performers at the latter track, doing well to get on top late in the scene as the track was almost certainly on the sharp side for him. Plenty of juvenile hurdlers don’t stay in strongly-run races at Cheltenham, especially when the ground is testing, but her taking pedigree is all about stamina. Nemean Lion and Colonel Harry, who finished third and fourth at Sandown, did their bit for the form when subsequently dominating a useful Grade Two contest at Kelso. And like nine of the past 11 winners, Gary Moore’s charge will be sporting some headgear. That horse was subsequently a good winner at Cheltenham on Trials Day. The unbeaten six-year-old doesn’t seem to have any chinks in his armour and is already rated higher than then past seven winners of the race.

A Plus Tard was a marvellous winner in last year’s Gold Cup race, but he has not achieved anything this year, giving reason to believe Galopin de Champs is up with the biggest chance of taking home the jewel in jump racing’s crown. Celebrate the biggest racing week of the year- the Cheltenham Festival. Ignore his last start as he unseated his inexperienced rider at the second but before that he finished third in a Grade 3 handicap at Sandown and was second over this course and distance on soft ground on New Year’s Day. He was never in the hunt in the Betfair Hurdle, which was run on good ground, and a return to a softer surface is going to be a plus. He has tried most trips but a drop to 2m appears to have reinvigorated him on the evidence of his last time out third in a Grade 3. He was good enough to finish fourth in the Triumph Hurdle last year and ran as if he wanted further on his handicap debut in December.

This should be a gripping contest, but the recommendation is 'no bet' in this instance. So, just the two recommendations on the opening day of this year's Cheltenham Festival. That brings the free-going and bold-jumping Dysart Dynamo - fourth at Leopardstown but still bang in there until early on the run-in - into play. MAHLER MISSION does look to be, and he is clear second-best in my book. Constitution Hill deserves to be the sort of price he is, and it may end up being a question of "how far?" That aside, it would be great to see the mare go into retirement with victory in this. Il Etait Temps has been useful for a while, coming fifth in the Triumph Hurdle here 12 months ago, but this was better still. The opening day of the Cheltenham Festival is always a special one in the racing calendar, but this year more than most. . I would go for something like seven lengths, and anything more than that could easily make him the highest-rated hurdler in history. Sir Ken at 2/5 in the second of his three successive Champion Hurdle victories in 1953 holds that honour. Constitution Hill is unbeaten in five starts over hurdles, the last four of them Grade Ones, all by a dozen lengths or more. He looks unmatched, especially on ground that promises to be softer than many were expecting until recently, but racing is a funny old game.

But the biggest player against her is BRANDY LOVE, a mare that has a supreme engine and will have come on leaps and bounds for her belated comeback run at Punchestown some three weeks ago. JONBON is my pick in the Arkle Chase (2.10) to beat El Fabiolo. And by the way, the sole horse he did beat that day has gone on to confirm the form.

Cheltenham Festival 2023 tips: Constitution Hill the star attraction on ... (Evening Standard)

As opening days of the Cheltenham Festival go, this gets little or no better. Could we see the performance of the greatest of all time, Constitution Hill, ...

The Fred Winter (4.50) looks tough, with Tekao perhaps a vulnerable favourite. Indeed, the straight forecast of Constitution Hill beating the Mullins runner is odds-on. Two previous Champion Hurdle winners, Honeysuckle and Epatante, clash in the Close Brothers Mares’Hurdle (3.40). The make-up of the Sporting Life Arkle (2.10) is enticing for punters. This should play to the strengths of the hold-up Saint Roi, who was impressive on his last completed start. Dysart Dynamo and El Fabiolo, both stablemates of the selection, like to go forward, as does Effernock Fizz.

Mullins claimed it was down to an ill-judged Paul Townend ride, haring off with High Definition, but the latter’s jockey JJ Slevin subsequently said they did not go that quick. Byker is an interesting contender for Charles Byrnes in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. The general consensus seemed to be that because it was only El Fabiolo’s second run for Willie Mullins he had overachieved and would improve past Douvan’s full-brother. He will go off the shortest-priced favourite in the first-day highlight for many, many years.

Constitution Hill tops bill as Cheltenham arrives (BBC Sport)

The four-day Cheltenham Festival starts on Tuesday with Nicky Henderson's Constitution Hill hot favourite to win the Champion Hurdle.

Gold Cup, Friday: Along with last year's first two, the third-placed Protektorat is also expected to line up. The 2019 winner Paisley Park, who runs for blind owner Andrew Gemmell, looks to regain his title after twice finishing third in the race. Ahoy Senor would be the first Scottish-trained winner, while John 'Shark Hanlon' seeks victory with £800 bargain buy Hewick. The 2022 Arkle Chase victor Edwardstone is another leading contender. "It'd be a great story to win it, wouldn't it?" Racecards, live text, results & reports on the BBC Sport website & app Some riders have struggled to adapt and believe policing of the changes has been draconian, while Irish jockeys who also compete in Britain have a different set of rules in their homeland. Trainer Henderson, seeking a record-extending ninth win in the Champion Hurdle, is trying to keep a lid on the expectation. Rules introduced last month reduce the number of times the whip is permitted by one, to seven in jumps races and six in flat races. Much of the talk in the build-up has centred on how riders will adapt to the regulations in the heat of top-level competition. Constitution Hill is one of few English-trained favourites in a week which has been dominated by the Irish in recent years. It is the first of 28 races at a meeting which is

Foxhunters — the name for the prestigious hunter chase on Friday, may have succumbed to political correctness (unlike at Aintree), but it’s still a big day out; for amateur jockeys and point-to-point trainers — the applause tends to be slightly muted when a professional set-up wins. Dawn Run is immortalised in a racecourse statue by Philip Blacker that doubles up as a useful meeting point Best Mate, three-time winner of the Gold Cup (2002–04), whose victories were marked by the headlong dash into each other’s arms of famously nervous trainer Henrietta Knight and her more bullish husband, Terry Biddlecombe.

Cheltenham Festival: Lydia Hislop's top tips for Tuesday (Racing TV)

Award-winning broadcaster and Road To Cheltenham presenter Lydia Hislop shares her best bets for day one of the Cheltenham Festival.

I’m inclined to take him on with MAHLER MISSION, who probably didn’t set a sound enough pace against the sadly absent Churchstone Warrior last time out in Navan’s Grade Two Ten Up Novice Chase last time out. Shrewdies are already salivating over a mark of 155 for the Grand National for Gaillard Du Mesnil, deeming him home and hosed in this. There were merely three-and-a-half lengths between her and Epatante in last year’s Champion Hurdle – and it would have been closer bar for the latter’s stumbling mistake at the last. He was far more dominant than the winning margin suggests at Musselburgh on his penultimate start, having learned plenty from a raw success at Taunton on debut. Even though everyone bar the coldest of heart would love to see Honeysuckle bow out on a win, this is business. Yet he has propensity to make a serious blunder, as per the fourth last at Leopardstown, and Cheltenham won’t be so forgiving if that happens at the wrong moment. But there is no obvious tactical chink in the favourite and his bombproof rider is unlikely to complicate matters on his uncomplicated mount. (They won’t be able to do both, however, with those two meetings scheduled so close together this season.) So, many will be interested in the winning-margin markets. The 2021 County Hurdle winner took a Grade One in a good time over Christmas. As in last year’s Supreme, the exuberant and clean-jumping Dysart Dynamo will set this race up for a big performance from either Jonbon or El Fabiolo. Mullins has also asked Paul Townend to ride more patiently than at Leopardstown, though that in turn prompts questions about whether he’ll settle after a season of making the running. I just think there's three very class horses - A Plus Tard, Bravemansgame and Galopin De Champs - ahead of them in the market. The noises from his yard have been positive and on this year's form, he is a hard horse to fancy. If we don't get as much rain as expected, then I think Home By the Lee will be the one to benefit from that. A Dream To Share is a very fast horse and would be a dream winner for his connections. I think they should be the same price because we don't know how good they are. The worry for Appreciate It is his age, and if he can improve, whereas there is no doubt Mighty Potter has progressed with every run this season, and could still be improving. I think it's a three-horse race between Gerri Colombe, The Real Whacker and Sir Gerhard. I would have followed Energumene, but Energumene didn't run his race there and I was disappointed with that run. I would be in the Gerri Colombe camp. I always think you should be with the improver. The fairytale result, and the result that we all want, is Honeysuckle, but in sport that doesn't always seem to play out. He was beaten by Jonbon at Aintree last year, but I think he will get his revenge on Tuesday.

Mahler Mission can follow him home with Chemical Energy and Minella Crooner the pick of the remainder in a contest likely to be dominated by the Irish. The seven-year-old seemed to settle notably well on his debut over fences at Leopardstown but reverted to his free-going ways in the Irish Arkle. The time was exceptional and I can't see any reason why he isn't going to run a massive race again. The greatest show on turf gets underway this afternoon and our tipster Bob Cross is here to guide you.

He has only won one chase previously, but he has been mixing it with the best and none of the competition here look anywhere near as accomplished as his previous conquerors. It is off at 4.50 and with several bookmakers paying six places, we will offer two each way selections in this wide open affair. The 4.10 is the Mares Hurdle and possibly the last time we will see Honeysuckle compete under rules. He has a bit more weight this year but it looks as though he has been laid out specifically for this event and at an each way price. Defeat here is out of the question, but a wee each way shilling on Zanahiyr, who is currently 80/1, may give us a run for our money. Trained by Lucinda Russell, Corach Rambler, had more horses in front than behind when arriving at the third last fence a year ago in this corresponding race.

Slow to come to hand this winter, Nicky Henderson reintroduced her against male opposition in the Grade Two Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. The cards looked stacked against the Lucinda Russell-saddled son of Jeremy entering the business end 12 months ago – Corach Rambler had many more rivals in front than behind. Milan’s daughter was an 18-1 chance when motoring home for Nico de Boinville to beat Queens Rock by a length and three-quarters last March. And he has added to his status in his second campaign. In any normal year, State Man would go off favourite for the Tuesday feature, and with good reason. Blue Bresil’s son set the tone in his first season, adding to two wide-margin wins at Sandown Park – the latter a 12-length score in the Grade One Tolworth Hurdle – with a 22-length drubbing of his opponents in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last March.

Cheltenham Festival 2023: Race times, TV channel and latest odds (Telegraph.co.uk)

Your day-by-day schedule to the four-day festival, including race timings for the Champion Hurdle, plus five horses to watch.

With the Mullins contingent leading the charge, Ireland are 1-20 to win in this year so the home side, it's fair to say, are needing snookers. So, let’s get on with one of the greatest shows in sport. The two best mares, Honeysuckle and Epatante, both previous winners of the race, have sought easier pickings in the mares’ hurdle leaving State Man, also unbeaten in two seasons except for a maiden hurdle fall, as his main rival, along with last year’s Triumph winner Vauban and I Like To Move It. Thus far Constitution Hill has all been about potential, what he can be, and this is unquestionably his toughest examination yet. Nothing, so far, has got within 12 lengths of him. Soft going it will be for the start of the 2023 Festival. But 103 years later Irish domination is all but complete and the extent of that will, surely, be a major talking point again when the meeting concludes on Friday night. Currently only Golden Miller and L’Escargot are in it but, with cheek-pieces reapplied, no horse in Friday’s race has the stamina depths of last year’s Aintree hero. One of the smallest clubs in racing, in terms of membership, are horses which have won a Gold Cup and Grand National. Full marks for connections sticking with young up and coming jockey Niall Houlihan on the front-runner who loves Cheltenham, a huge chance for him to break into the big time. Unbeaten in first 16 starts but yet to win this season. Plans to add a fifth day, on the Saturday, have been shelved because of concerns about damage to the racetrack and Britain's uncertain economic footing.

Celebrate the biggest racing week of the year- the Cheltenham Festival. One of the most prestigious National Hunt Meetings of the calendar is not to be missed…and we’ve got a bumper week of amazing content and great reader offers. “Just turn over another page.” Here's an extract from the new book. Born JJ but nicknamed ‘Noel’ because he was born on Christmas Day, Furlong - a poker-playing, racing and greyhound-loving punter to his fingertips - had cleaned out the bookies to the tune of £500,000 in an epic gamble on Destriero at Cheltenham in 1991. But Victor was a good judge and, at that same meeting, took a £50,000 bet on the McManus owned hotpot Youlneverwalkalone in the opening race and got it beaten. In 1998, the year of Istabraq’s first tilt at the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, his owner McManus had attempted to place a £300,000 bet on him. Victor was one of the few bookies prepared to look these gamblers in the eye and not flinch. There was Barney Curley, a hero to punters on both sides of the Atlantic and there was Noel Furlong, a carpet dealer and self-made millionaire who won the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in 1999. And then there was JP McManus, the Sundance Kid of racing legend, domiciled not only at Kilmallock in County Limerick but also in Switzerland and Barbados. In the authorised biography, Victor Chandler: Put Your Life On It - released in paperback last Thursday - author Jamie Reid details some of the infamous skirmishes between McManus and Chandler and recounts the days when the Festival betting ring was no place for the faint-hearted. There is no more legendary punter than JP McManus - the Irish owner who will have a host of runners over the next four days - and no more legendary bookie than Victor Chandler.

Cheltenham Festival 2023: Constitution Hill goes for glory in ... (The Guardian)

[the going remains soft](https://its.turftrax.co.uk/visualiser/cheltenham/) after 7mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Post-Champion, the wonderful Honeysuckle will attempt to close out her career with a 17th win from 19 starts, and the afternoon concludes with a hopelessly impossible handicap hurdle and the rigours of the National Hunt Chase. But he hasn’t - yet - got a Champion Hurdle of his own on his record, and filling in that gap should be the main business of the first afternoon at Cheltenham. Unlike Golden Cygnet, who suffered a fatal injury in a fall in the Scottish Champion Hurdle a month after winning the Supreme Novice Hurdle, he will get a chance to show off his talent in the Champion Hurdle itself. And so here we go again, gathering beneath Cleeve Hill to watch horses race over jumps, just as folk have been doing for a century or more. [last year’s Supreme Novice Hurdle], as Constitution Hill bids to take his place among the sport’s all-time greats on the Champion Hurdle roll of honour. The weather looks fresh enough on course, bright sunshine the rain passing for the day, perhaps to return this evening, and later tomorrow for Champion Chase day. Trained by Aidan O’Brien before the master of Coolmore concentrated on being a flat trainer, JP McManus’s horse won three Champion Hurdles, and four times at the A raging case of festival fever is one thing; the level of delirium required to pay £190 a night to bed down in a metal box is clearly quite another. But only 16 of the 300 beds had been booked by the middle of last week. This idea looked good until, well, the price. Tahmuras (12-1) is probably the pick of the British-trained contenders though the concern is that he is just the best of a sub-standard bunch, but High Definition – who was Group-class on the Flat and favourite for the Derby in the early stages of his three-year-old career – is a fascinating option at around 20-1, and closely matched on ratings with both Inthepocket (8-1) Diverge (22-1).

Cheltenham Festival Day 1: Tips and best bets for Tuesday ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

The full schedule for Tuesday; Ed Chamberlin on how Constitution Hill can light up Cheltenham; Marcus Armytage rides out on Hollow Games.

Talking of wine, I was having a drink with Mullins recently and I asked him for his best chance of the week. It is a long time since I have ridden down the chute in front of the stands, empty or full. Win, lose, or draw the two-time Champion Hurdle heroine Honeysuckle will be given an emotional, rousing farewell on her final start with Rachael Blackmore in the saddle, and I am very confident that Tuesday is going to be a thrilling ride at Prestbury Park and for viewers at home. Her two defeats came at the hands of two genuine Grade 1 horses, both of whom go forward as strong fancies in their respective Championship races this week and, back in calmer waters, it is hard not to envisage Honeysuckle stamping her class and proving the one they all have to beat. He last ran at Punchestown in a handicap (without the tongue tie that he had worn in 6 prior starts) where he struggled to make an impact. Cheltenham is a festival that means so much to so many and this year’s renewal will not disappoint. He is hard to fault and is readily fancied to confirm himself as the most exciting hurdler we have seen in years. The strong start to the Festival for Closutton can continue in the Arkle, with Dysart Dynamo fancied to bounce right back to his best and prove the one they all have to catch. Last season's mares' novice winner Love Envoi has been impressive but was beaten convincingly by Brandy Love at the back-end of last season and she will need to find more, especially if Honeysuckle reproduces the level of her second toState Man at Leopardstown last time. The winner of last year’s Champion Bumper, Facile Vega has otherwise had a foot-perfect career and is fancied to bounce right back to form here and prove very hard to beat. For all the Irish domination at Cheltenham in recent years this has been a race in which the British horses have more than help their own. Facile Vega fluffed his lines for the first time in his career at Leopardstown last month, paying the price for laying up with a strong pace set by the re-opposing High Definition.
