Pakistan: Police storm the home of former PM Imran Khan and arrest ... (Metro)

Former Pakistani PM and cricket legend Imran Khan is on trial for a string of corruption charges after being ousted from power.

Khan was expected to appear in an Islamabad court on Saturday after a top court on Friday suspended his arrest warrant, giving him a reprieve to travel to Islamabad and face the charges levelled against him without being detained. Mr Khan, who was shot and wounded while campaigning in November, said the threat to his life is greater than ever before, and claimed- without evidence- that his political opponents and the military want to block him from standing in elections later this year. Witnesses said police attempted to disperse Khan supporters by firing tear gas and chased them to several homes in the Zaman Park neighbourhood. He said baton-wielding Khan supporters attempted to resist police by throwing stones and petrol bombs, but the officers moved on until a man on the roof of Khan’s residence opened fire. The former PM has been holed up at his home in Lahore since Tuesday, after failing to appear at an earlier hearing in the case against him. Police in Pakistan stormed the home of former prime minister Imran Khan in the eastern city of Lahore on Saturday, arresting 30 people and deploying tear gas after ‘bulldozing the main gate.’
