In 2023, Mother’s Day in the UK falls on March 19th, a day that will be one of the happiest times of the year for many mothers and rightly so. While the recognition and acknowledgment that Mother's Day can be uncomfortable, it doesn't necessarily help everyone. It's yet another email reminder that I don't need or want because normally I delete anything and everything that comes my way in relation to it. My mum, Tina, died of pancreatic cancer on March 19th, 2021, when the whole world was grieving from the coronavirus pandemic. I wear the badge with a heavy heart, and have done for two years. I belong to the club nobody wants to belong to, the motherless-daughter group.
But what makes your mum so special? We asked you, our readers, to share all the reasons why you love your mum. Does she always put others first and have a heart ...

Tired of being asked what gay dads do on Mother's Day, gay dad Stu Oakley wonders if there's still a place for rewarding hyper-gendered parenting.
We sort of cancel each other out as one of us has to be the one to get out of bed and sort breakfast. Dare I even suggest that Mother’s Day is in fact a fairly toxic way for some straight men to atone for being so darn-right useless the rest of the year? The applause I’ve often got for being out alone with my kids is insulting, I’m just being a parent — don’t congratulate me on taking my kids out just because I am man. No, give me the equal parenting we get to enjoy for the remaining 364 days of the year in exchange for one day when neither of us gets special treatment. I’m just counting down the days till I can be wheeled out to a pub and have our grown children buy their old dads a big bottle of the most expensive wine on the menu on Father’s Day. Or those who can’t stand to be in the same room as their mother?
It is Mother's Day in the UK yet for Emma Hayes, time with her son will be limited due to Chelsea Women's FA Cup appointment at Reading today.
‘So let’s hope Mother's Day is qualifying for the next round of the cup and maybe we can bake some cakes later when I get home at night.’ The chance to progress to the semi-final is there for the cup holders and Hayes admits that Mother’s Day has not been a regular day of leisure for her over the years. There are messages to mums and indeed nans, plus those that are still with us in spirit.

Since 1994 Hope and Homes for Children has been inspiring multiple governments, the UN, EU and Commonwealth to close the doors of orphanages forever. Today, countries such as Rwanda, Bulgaria and Romania are on the cusp of becoming orphanage-free. The charity fights for children to grow up in families, by reuniting children with relatives. She's the one that taught me about empathy and warmth and compassion for others in the world," said Hamilton. Norris added: "My mum's role has been very important in my life. "I have two mums.

One of the best ways to show that you are there for them is to send them a card with a sweet message inside. “The run-up can be worrying for mothers, fathers and relatives who have experienced the death of a baby and may need help to express how they feel and what they need. Alternatively, you can let them know in advance that you will be around to chat on the day if they need or, if they are feeling up to it, you can plan something special to do with them on the day such as take them out to afternoon tea or plan a spa trip together. If a friend or family member has lost their child, it can be hard to know what to say or do to help, but Sands says that even the simplest of actions can be a thoughtful way to show your friend you’re there. [For years, doctors told me I was just being dramatic. “You are still a mother and your bond with your child, whether they are here or not, is something to be proud of,” Sands says.

It is a brilliant event which brings together some of the top newsrooms in the country to answer a devilishly difficult set of questions whilst raising money for charity. If I close my eyes, I can still see the perfect condition Millennium Falcon that, for some inexplicable reason, she decided to swap for a “Sindy car” for one of my sisters. The only thing I have ever held against her is the fact that she once decided to give my prized possession away. It was a real pleasure to host the Ultimate News Quiz. I have visions of our rather bouncy Labrador Honey, trying to demolish the toast, dribbling profusely and jumping all over the bed like a lunatic. I won’t tell you what the kids and I have got for my wife, because I’m pretty sure she will read this article and that would ruin it. So Mum, if you’re sat reading this with a lovely bunch of flowers and some chocolates next to you, if I’m being honest… While my dad still steadfastly holds to that principle, our kids have been encouraged to embrace it a little more. The vast majority of countries follow the US example (so the day [ falls on 14 May](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/mothers-day-2022-when-date-uk-world-different-us-other-countries-explained-1617387?ico=in-line_link)) but here, we are celebrating it this weekend… It tends to fall on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three Sundays before Easter. This was one of the questions our kids were posing this week.

Living overseas from my young daughter, the explosion of cards and flowers at this time of year can be overwhelming, says journalist Charlotte Kilpatrick.
This isn’t a longing that comes once a year: it comes packed into everyday moments of walking past a school at the end of the day and watching all the moms line up to pick up their kids. For mothers separated from their children, this yearning to feel them reappears at unpredictable moments – like when a waiter in a cafe wishes the moms around you a happy Mother’s Day and you wish you could pull out a napkin and wipe whipped cream from the corner of your child’s mouth. Men are allowed to leave their kids with the mom and go off to seek their fortunes elsewhere. After examining all our options, we decided on the most obvious and painful one: that he and our daughter would move back to Rennes, and I would visit as often as I could. Just before moving to the UK from France for my husband’s work, we had decided to end our 12-year relationship. The surge of emotion surprised me, even though I’ve come to expect it every year as the cards, signs and marketing emails start to pile up.

I'm more terrified of camping than walking 100km", Nick admits, whilst Donna says she is "super proud" of him for the challenge he's taking on, hinting she wanted to be at the finish line to congratulate him when he's completed the trek. It was stressful to not be able to be there." When they were in Norwich, Donna was meant to go but she was too poorly, so they're making the most of every moment moving forward.
