Iga Swiatek, of Poland, returns a shot to Elena Rybakina, of Kazakhstan, during a semifinal match at the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament Friday, ...

A likely showdown with Sabalenka in the semifinals could be a stiff test, but if you’re getting +2200 odds on a player who has a good path to being one of the four final players in the Miami Open, it’s an enticing proposition. Iga Swiatek (+175) is the easy bet since she’s clearly the favorite at the Miami Open, but she also admitted that she wasn’t playing at 100% during Indian Wells because of a rib injury. In her one chance to win a title, she was defeated in a straight-sets beatdown by Swiatek in the Doha final, but she has a good draw and finds herself on Swiatek’s side of the bracket, so if the Pole isn’t healthy, a trip to the finals could be in the cards. [was just recently stunned by Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals of Indian Wells](https://www.eurosport.com/tennis/wta-indian-wells/2023/indian-wells-elena-rybakina-beats-iga-swiatek-will-meet-aryna-sabalenka-in-final-after-belarusian-be_sto9515226/story.shtml), so there will be no Sunshine Double this year. Last year, Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-0 to win her third consecutive WTA 1000 of the season and extend her win streak to 17 matches. Along with the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Miami Open is a joint ATP/WTA tournament where the men’s and women’s tournaments will be going on at the same time.

7:00 pm Since Wolf reached the Dallas semifinals last month, he's posted a 1-3 record and, like Bublik, should be very hungry for Hard Rock success. The big-serving Bublik is 1-10 in all other Tour-level tournaments, including opening-round exits in Auckland, Australian Open, Rotterdam, Montpellier and Indian Wells. French fans were already out in force watching Benoit Paire's qualifying match on Monday and this all-French affair figures to be a fan-friendly clash. As expected, Monfils showed signs of rust playing his first match in nearly seven months, he won four games against Jordan Thompson in Indian Wells. Humbert showed it outlasting Monfils in five sets in their only meeting at the 2019 Wimbledon. Lorenzo Sonego (ITA) vs. The man with the metal hip and titanium backbone has been a match-point miracle man saving match points in three different matches. Rybakina; Sabalenka d. Semifinals: Pegula d. Sabalenka will start against either Shelby Rogers or Sloane Stephens, but her toughest competition could come from Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round. She has a title this season; does she have a deep run at a 1000 in her, too? Miami is where things began to go south for her in 2022. Speaking of Sakkari, was her semifinal run in Indian Wells a sign that she has stabilized? She’s in Gauff’s half of this section, and is due to make some noise. Like Jabeur, her presumed breakout season has yet to materialize (missed Indian Wells with injury). For Coco Gauff, it’s probably a relief not to be anywhere near either Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka in the draw; she has lost love sets to both recently, and she lost badly to Swiatek in Miami a year ago. Hopefully Parks, an American up-and-comer and already a champion in Lyon, can improve on her performance in Indian Wells, where she lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to Anna Kalinskaya. She’ll start against either Claire Liu or Katerina Siniakova, and the first seed she could face is Martina Trevisan. Miami, USA

Tennis betting tips: Miami Open Open preview and best bets (Sportinglife.com)

The latest Masters 1000 event of the ATP season, the Miami Open, gets under way on Wednesday. Our Andy Schooler has a 35/1 shot among his picks.

He’s since been to the semis in Dubai where he lost to Andy Murray having held five match points – another agonising loss for this column as we had him at 20/1 each-way! We are committed in our support of safer gambling. His consistency contrasts with the enigmatic nature of potential opponents Borna Coric and Hubert Hurkacz. This will be his debut in Miami so we’re a bit in the dark as to how he’ll adapt and that factor is perhaps why I’m not prepared to pull the trigger in the quarter betting at 13/2. He’s another who has proved his ability in these conditions and arrives in good form having made the semis in Indian Wells on the back of a strong indoor run which brought a title in Montpellier and a semi-final appearance in Rotterdam. [Betfair Sportsbook](https://ads.betfair.com/redirect.aspx?pid=3887764&bid=9809&redirectURL=https://www.betfair.com/sport/tennis) [Paddy Power](https://media.paddypower.com/redirect.aspx?pid=13194133&bid=7103&redirectURL=https://www.paddypower.com/golf/wgc-workday-championship-2021) Still, with Norrie at 35/1 and Medevdev just 3/1, I’m prepared to take a chance on the Briton. He beat the likes of Taylor Fritz, Rafael Nadal and Alex de Minaur on the Australian hardcourts at the start of the season before reaching back-to-back finals on the South American clay and then, in Indian Wells, defeating Andrey Rublev en route to the last eight. As in 2022, he won a title on clay in South American before impressing in Indian Wells – this year he won the title whereas last season he lost in the semis. I’m certainly happy to take the Russian on and will do so in the form of CAMERON NORRIE. Essentially, there’s going to be a lot of adapting to do and for the likes of Alcaraz and Medvedev it will need to happen quickly.
