Francis, who has been married to Watkins since 2014, said the show was a chance to raise awareness about sepsis as well as “talk about how it is possible to live your life after such a terrible tragedy”.

Jason Watkins' wife on reluctance to make film on daughter's death (Metro)

Jason Watkins' wife Clara Francis has shared why she felt reluctant to make an ITV documentary about their daughter Maudie's death.

We did,’ Clara chimed in, referring to the previous idea for the documentary. Bessie was a young child when Maudie died, and Gilbert was born following their loss. ‘But then we reconfigured how it would work and it felt authentic. ‘It should be about bereavement, it should be about us, about us as a family. I think we have been true to her and us as a family and what we wanted to say in the documentary.’ We may not have made it.’ Yet with early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics.’ As soon as we made that decision, we went back to ITV and said, “Listen, we think this is what it should be.” And then it all fell into place. It couldn’t just be him. I just thought I don’t want to be sidelined, this is too important.’ ‘ITV came to me, and I think at the start of it, it was mostly about sepsis and about better care and better awareness.’ If not treated immediately, sepsis can result in organ failure and death.
