Oscar Pistorius parole: Early release to be considered (BBC News)

The former Paralympics star has served half of his 13-year sentence for murdering Reeva Steenkamp.

They will look at his behaviour, his state of mind and the extent to which he has been rehabilitated. If Pistorius fails to get parole at his first attempt or his release is challenged by the Steenkamps, he could still go to court to argue that having served more than half the time, South African law stipulates that he should be released under supervision. The parole board - a minimum of three people - will consider statements from Pistorius, the Steenkamps, and from a range of social workers and prison officials.

Former Paralympic runner has applied for parole 10 years after killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius could be released on full parole or placed on day parole, where he would be allowed to live and work in the community during the day but have to return to prison at night. It is required in South Africa — if victims or their family want the meeting — before an offender can be considered for parole. His father, Henke Pistorius, said in a 2018 interview that he was running bible classes for other inmates. Pistorius sustained an injury in an altercation with another inmate over a public telephone in 2017. His crime eventually led to him being sent to the Kgosi Mampuru II maximum security prison, one of South Africa's most notorious. He could also be placed under correctional supervision, which means he would be released but have to spend some of his time during the week at a correctional center.
