Ken Bruce's first Greatest Hits Radio show, review: Bruce can't play ... (iNews)

On his inaugural show after jumping ship from the BBC, the DJ was faultless, promoting GHR into the big league.

(Changing the dial is a faff.) This may not be good news for Vernon Kay, who replaces him on Radio 2, but it promotes GHR into the big league. If we overlook the five seconds of dead air before Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”, then this is autopilot as artform, smooth and faultless. The man entering his eighth decade is clearly in the prime of his life. Bruce has played The Beatles and The Bangles before. “We’ve missed it,” Bruce says. He followed up with “Manic Monday” by The Bangles. The man’s a pro. “You’ve made history,” he tells her. The only significant change is the music, but even here, not really. The music quiz’s own profile of late has rivalled his own. DJs change stations all the time – it just doesn’t normally make headlines. That was his first song – his final Radio 2 track had been the same band’s track “The End”.
