Samuel L. Jackon is coming to Disney+ in Marvel's latest blockbuster series.

Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn also returns as Talos, the leader of a group of Skrulls and an ally of Fury. Ross, a former CIA agent who featured most prominently in the Black Panther films. Also making her MCU debut is Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, who stars as high-ranking MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, an old ally of Fury’s described as “a more antagonistic presence.” Set to drop this summer, Secret Invasion marks the first series in the MCU’s Phase Five and will follow on from the story of 2019’s Captain Marvel and its upcoming sequel The Marvels. Fury promised to find the group a new planetary home but after decades of waiting, he has failed to deliver. It will consist of six episodes. director Nick Fury, who has been living off-world since the events of Avengers: Endgame, when humanity was restored following “The Blip” and Thanos’ demise. So here, ahead of its premiere later this year, we break down all the tantalising details about Marvel’s Secret Invasion. The hotly anticipated series is based on the Marvel Comics crossover story arc of the same name which ran from 2008 to 2009 and featured characters from across the franchise including Spider-Man, Thor, Daredevil, The Fantastic Four and several X-Men. Secret Invasion will centre on former S.H.I.E.L.D. Rounding off the cast is Martin Freeman as Everett K. Jackson in character in Leeds, Huddersfield and Halifax.

Phase Five of the MCU is well underway, and Nick Fury’s long-anticipated return with Secret Invasion is just around the corner. The series so far looks like quite the departure from the comic book of the same name. It’s entirely possible that Fury would have disappeared as far back as Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The phase launched with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantum Mania and includes the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Additionally, Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke make their MCU debuts with Secret Invasion. The comic arc of the same name features the Skrulls as the baddies, but up until now, the alien race has been pretty alright in the MCU.

Super-Skrull is a Fantastic Four villain, but his appearance in 'Secret Invasion' suggests a new origin.

[Spider-Man: Homecoming](https://www.inverse.com/article/34109-marvel-damage-control-spider-man-homecoming-mcu) and [Ms. Marvel](https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/ms-marvel-review-disney-plus), fans have seen that the DDC is all too keen on tracking superheroes. [Secret Invasion](https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/secret-invasion-trailer-emilia-clarke-olivia-coleman), the Marvel miniseries coming in June to Disney+. To support this argument, the trailer has a close-up shot of a “specimen sample” collected by the Department of Damage Control. It’s therefore unlikely that Super-Skrull will have their powers, but he may have adopted the abilities of known MCU figures instead, including Groot. With a single shot of Gravik’s arm stretched like Groot’s, tree roots and all, all signs point to Gravik being Super-Skrull, a prominent villain from the comics.
