Channel 4's 'Alice & Jack' Review: A Rom-Com Lacking Passion and Chemistry

Find out why Andrea Riseborough and Domhnall Gleeson's latest romantic drama is falling flat with viewers and critics alike.

The new Channel 4 series 'Alice & Jack' starring Andrea Riseborough and Domhnall Gleeson has failed to impress both viewers and critics. The love story portrayed on screen is devoid of passion and chemistry, making the characters come off as unintelligent and the script weak. Riseborough and Gleeson, despite being talented actors, couldn't salvage the pretentious nature of the show. The anti-rom-com format of the series has drawn comparisons to Netflix's popular rom-coms, but 'Alice & Jack' falls short in terms of relatability and engagement.

In the midst of the series' criticism, it remains a mystery why actors like Domhnall Gleeson and Andrea Riseborough agreed to be part of this lacklustre project. Their stellar performances were not enough to make their characters likeable, leaving viewers disappointed. Victor Levin's writing, which had the potential to shine, seemed to have missed the mark in 'Alice & Jack'. The romantic drama, although well-acted, failed to resonate with the audience due to the lack of chemistry and believability between the characters.

Andrea Riseborough, known for her captivating performances, and Domhnall Gleeson, a talented actor in his own right, brought their A-game to 'Alice & Jack' despite the show's shortcomings. Riseborough, an Academy Award-nominated producer, was expected to elevate the series with her presence, but even her acting prowess couldn't salvage the weak storyline. Gleeson, renowned for his diverse roles, faced challenges in portraying a character that failed to connect with the audience. Despite receiving feedback on the series' atrocious sound quality, Riseborough's and Gleeson's efforts fell short in saving 'Alice & Jack' from being labeled as an underwhelming romantic drama.
